Judging by what he does with a Telecaster and a tweed champ I'd like to see Julian Lage play some Jazz with Greeny. That man loves guitars that 'll fight you and he understands tone. I'm sure he'd do that guitar justice. And Peter Green himself said that Les Pauls were meant for Jazz.

You could play Bro-country on that Les Paul.

I'm not sure what the point of your observation really is, yes, as KH demonstrated so effectively, Greeny can sound just like any other crap guitar BUT in the right hands it can become a relevant iconic instrument again. You can stuff a rattlesnake tail into a Stradivarius and play hillbilly "music" or you can hand it to someone who knows what it is, where it's been and what it is capable of. Gary Moore wasn't that guy and neither is Kirk, IMO. Still cool that he owns it but that only goes so far. And for someone who only cares about the guitars and not the lucky owners at this point in time I can't ignore the fact that's a fate that most expensive vintage guitars have in common. No harm done but not ideal either.

Werner, let me just use a phrase often read on these forums: "The guitar doesn't care."
    And so should we.

That Les Paul is a waste running thru that heavily processed, distorted signal.
As stated above, it sounds nearly identitical to the ESP.
Everything that guitar can produce is lost thru KH's rig.
(I'm an early Metallica fan as well as Fleetwood Mac)

    Not necessarily true-
gary recorded the original Still in Love with You as a favor for Phil when Thin Lizzy dropped Eric Bell and was hiring Scott and Brian.

There is the original studio version and a post Lizzy Lynott studio version circa 1984. Both are Gary.

Live versions are a different matter, and yes Robbo and Scott are the guys who get the fame for the song during Lizzys heyday.

I know about the Nightlife version, and Robbo refused to re-record the solo..I was referring to the Live and Dangerous version.:D

IF that's not what he was talking about then I apologize.

I just re-read it..and he said blasting in car..so if he had the Nightlife album, then yes, GM..if Live and Dangerous, BR.

I for one, love hearing Metallica riffs pour out of Greenie. I think he should pull out those pickups that were stupidly put in backwards, drop in some EMG's, and really start riffing.

I think he should too. That guitar is the definition of doing what you want to YOUR instrument to suit you and not caring about what purists say. practically nothing on the guitar is original yet it's still lauded by enthusiasts.

    Overdrive and distortion are guitar-blind.

There's also a BBC sessions version. The 85 version still gives me goose bumps.

Opening night of the Metallica Hardwired tour in Baltimore, Kirk busted Greeny out for both Fade to Black and Seek & Destroy.

    It was f*****g epic.
