I saw him Friday night in a small club in Auburn Hills, Mi. and I think the club should be ashamed of themselves for charging 50 bucks to see this tragedy. Johnny had no guitar skills anymore. You would be shocked.

I was one of those wishful thinkers hoping for the best for Johnny. Rumors of his health improving and his skills returning are greatly exaggerated.

It's a shame really... For as popular as he was in the 70's, he goes mostly unrecognized.

His former manager F-ed him over, big time.

I for one am very grateful for the body of work he has done in his lifetime, if he never hits another lick (knock on wood), he is definitely in the top 10 guitar slingers.

I saw him play @ Mulchays in Wantagh - the only thing he could still do well was play slide guitar. He has no finger strength whatsoever. They basically carried the old bugger on stage. He'll die with that firebird in his hand.

Johnny had a fall several years back and broke his hip which led to a downward spiral period in his health. He also had some other health-related issues. Also, given the fact that he was into heroin for so long and drank for so many years, on top of the fact he's an albino, he's been rode hard and put up wet. However, his health has improved considerably in the past few years and he's doing much better. He plays sitting down now on account of the hip.

I saw him a couple of years back. He played pretty well given the circumstances. I was honored just to get a chance to see him for myself.

I saw him at The Downtown a few years ago. He had some good moments, but yeah, it seems like he should've retired a while ago. He's pretty frail, and he can't see.

You got to see a real Rock Star, he really shook up the music industry when he came in. His health problems are well known, he's diabetic. And he needs to make a living. If nothing else as a fellow musician, you helped a fellow musician. I don't think Johnny will be with us for a long time. So you make look back on this differently, in years to come.

Johnny is the main reason I purchased a Firebird.
I've seen him at least 5 times since the mid 80's.
I saw him a year ago May and he is in bad shape.
Yes. He had to be helped to the stage and sat down in a chair.
Yes. He played mainly slide on his beat up Bird.
But he did rock. Still some fire left in them old claw like hands.
It is truely sad to see the heros of our youth, Our main infulences grow old and feable.
It' s the natural cycle of life. Sad, but true. It just reminds us of our own mortality.

I went with the sole purpose of getting an autograph. There was no way he was going to be able to sign anything though. I love Johnny and always will.

Listen to some old Johnny Winter, then listen to SRV, you can't tell me Stevie Ray didn't pick up 90% of his licks from Winter... not including the other percentage from Albert King. Don't get me wrong SRV still SMOKED but I think Johnny really defined his style.
