I think it would need to be a 58 GT, not a 57, for the Gibson logo to have moved up the headstock (although I supose a late 57 is possible).

IIRC black was the only colour that HB sized rings came in as after-market parts in the early 70s, which explains why the real #3 has them (originaly a P90 guitar) and may also be true for the 1977 guitar as well, if that had P90s to start with.

As i said i have not looked into this and was just a guess, I think i will start to look into it just to curb my curiosity. As you said the logo placement dictates it to be around 58- if it is of that era.

P.S... did you receive my pm?

Doubtful that the 1977 guitar had P90s since those were only used on a few special LPs in 77 (maybe Les Paul Pro?). If it is a Deluxe, it most likely would have had mini humbuckers, although a few Deluxes were ordered with full sized HBs. More likely, it is a Les Paul Standard that came with full sized HBs.

must be photo shopped! Jimmy would never do that! besides, even if he would do that, he would get ones with bird inlays! it was post LZ, so i guess anything goes. it holds no interest to me! let's put it this way. about 10 years ago, when i was a mere player and not yet a collector, i had 2 electric guitars: Gibson and PRS (CU24, 10 top with birds). I wanted to sell one because I did not need both. I kept the Gibson!

Neither are photoshoped: Top one is on the Walking In To Clarksdale tour, bottom is from Outrider. Both times PRS used for trem work.

If you thought that they were photoshoped wait till you see Jimmy with a Jackson super-strat thing!

    Anyway...

Nige's tech was right: the red guitar was used in 1977, but could not be a 1977 production model.

The three scenarios I outlined above are the ones that seem to fit with the visuals of the guitar itself. I said P90s, not mini-HBs because in two of those scenarios (the Corby guitar, which was originally a 52, & the reissue GT) P90s were what they came with. The reisue was only made from approx 1971 to 72/3, from the little I can gather about them, and in 1977 was the only narrow binding Les Paul available apart from original 1950s ones (disclaimer: that I am currently aware of!"

    :)

I used to have a guitar very similar to that - it was a 1989/1990 Charvel / Jackson model 6 neck through guitar with active electronics. It had shark tooth inlays. I believe it had a Jackson licensed version of a Floyd Rose trem. It was a cool guitar. I know a guy who used to own that company for one year around 1981.

It's definitely a lot more than a comedy, much bigger than that. Can't remember loving a film more. I find the idea of Nigel being a fictional character vaguely repugnant (he's real, please tell me he's real!) I was very gratified to hear that when a mate saw him chatting with Jeff Beck at the bar at a music show many years ago, it was very difficult to tell them apart.
