Easily the most talented Guitar in Guns N' Roses. A Hell of a better writer than Slash ever was. Some solos I had originally appreciated Slash for in Guns N' Roses were actually done by Izzy. Such as the solo in Think About You and that Small solo in Nightrain before Slash's big one. He had a nice Classic rock tone on AFD such a nice mellow one; But people seem to care about Slash's tone more. Does anyone else appreciate Izzy Stradlin?

Izzy was the only thing about Guns I liked. When he checked out, so did I.

Although I do prefer Slash (for a lot of reasons including the fact he was so melodic with his leads, great stage presence, tone, LP player), I agree Izzy is underrated.

Izzy can do it all. Write, play, solo, and sing. His music has a great vibe, and I really like his voice.

They started playing sh*t-long ballads and play acting poorly written "hard" songs when he left, so to me he was the true dirty, sleazy writer/player in GnR....

A fair bit of the illusion tracks were written before Appetite and some even before guns.

But you are right, Izzy was the man.

He recorded the Albums but left during the Tour for UYI 1 and 2. Gilby Clarke wasn't even a worthy replacement in my opinion.

Without Izzy Stradlin, Guns 'n' Roses were just a gang of assholes making a living by being assholes. He was the no-questions-asked best writer and best musician in that lot. (I'm glad to see The Tats in the Hat has grown up considerably since the G'n'R days, even if I still think Slashtone is one of the most overrated tones in the business and has never had half the showcase it had when it had Stradlin to work with, but I still think Stradlin was the real musical soul of that band.) And he's sure making the best records now of anyone still or formerly associated with that band . . .
