Is this crack on a white Elitist something to worry about?

Started a thread a few days ago about 2 Elitists and one Elite that my local Guitar Center got in. I bought one but was wondering about the others. I noticed this crack on the white Elitist that kinda bothered me but maybe its nothing. I thought I would take a few pictures of it for people who know more about guitars than I do. Should this guitar be avoided?

I'd worry more about the crack the guy was smoking when he picked out the color scheme of the accessories on those guitar!

Now that I'm looking at it closer on my phone it looks like it could possibly have been a repair. Like the neck came away from the body at some point.

Luckily he didn't go overboard and start customizing the bodies. With some money spent and a little effort it can be brought back to normal.

I am not an expert but that looks like more than an expansion crack to me.

I once dealt with an Elitist SG that had a neck body joint crack.
I really liked the guitar but, ended up returning it not wanting to deal with any issues down the road.

I guess you went back to that GC possibly for the white custom?

Where are the pics and ngd of the wine red Elite? :)

That's all the way across the bottom, by the binding, also.

What's the back-story on this one?

I found myself with some extra time and I was around the GC so I decided to stop in and take a look real quick so I could snap off a few pics and get some opinions of the crack I saw. It was a pretty exciting trip, as I was there some guy came in and ran out with a guitar, police were called and everything. Don't know if they caught the guy.

I wish I had it. Unfortunately, it's hold isn't up yet so I couldn't take it home. I'll pick it up on 9/9 and post pics then. BTW, I know you asked about the serial number it was F400641.

    Oh right, the police hold.
So looks like you got yourself a 2004 wine red custom for $500. That is a good deal, especially if it's in good condition.

    Congratulations there.

Actually, that is the serial number off the white Elitist, I thought you asked for it in the other thread. The wine red I bought is an F3.

If the Elitist is nitro finished, that is normal. Just a finish crack. I'd buy it.

It doesn't look bad to me, should be on the finish (poly by the way). For 500$??? Go get it, before someone else does!

Definitely a great deal at $500 as long as that crack is superficial.

I wouldn't ever buy a les paul with cracks along the neck joint.

Yeah, might turn out the cracks are cosmetic but I don't feel comfortable about this one. I think I'll pass.

    Thanks for everyone's input.

Don't assume that those cracks are inconsequential. Many guitars -- mostly inexpensive, over-finished models -- crck in that area, sometimes on their own and very often when the neck/head is bumped, as it acts like a big lever. But it is definitely not common at all to have cracks that go entirely around the joint. Odds are about 80% that it's just superficial finish damage (but damage nonetheless) but also 20% that the neck joint is either weaker than it should be, or (longshot) loose or insufficiently guled/badly fit, or damaged. Personally, I wouldn't buy it unless the price reflects this condition. A good LP has a tight, strong neck joint.

Ive bought so many set neck guitars like posted above I don't sweat it.
Sit & play it, hold the body & give the neck a few light pulls/twists, see if the crack changes or if it goes out of tune & stays.
Maybe that guitar has excessive filler around the pocket & it shrunk.
