Is it just me or are Les Paul headstock getting to be the size of Norlin models?

I've always really liked the slim 50's/60's headstock and I would buy one of the new classics in a heart beat if they didn't have the big 70's headstock. I wonder why they keep doing that? To make the historics more appealing?

I like the apex volute headstock...

Kinda off the subject but, to me, the bigger the headstock, the better...

Know this is a custom sized headstock but the volute is pure awesomeness...

Funny enough, on a Norlin I like the big headstock - just not on current models. I have so much headstock baggage!

Small headstock, big headstock, depends on where your head's stucked.

Note sure how much bigger it got but I think lpn has the time line right. Seems like it got a bit larger and they changed the open book carve with more pronounced 'wings'.... WTH are we talking about...

Modern headstocks are really non-issue to me. Just like weight relief, 2-piece backs, rim bursts, etc, etc, etc.

Seeing as life isn’t perfect and things in life even less so, I really try to operate under the “85% rule”. If something is at least 85% what I want/need/like then I just let the other 15% go and not worry about it. Seems to be a philosophy that has served me well and allowed me to just relax and enjoy the 85% instead of focusing/worrying/griping/fretting about the 15%. I know it’s made me a happier person as a result. :D

You should hope they are the same size as Norlin.

I like 'em all, but I like the Norlin headstock least. For the life of me, I don't know why so many people dislike volutes! Particularly on a LP, they add strength to a poorly designed part of the instrument. Many custom makers have amazing volutes. But I guess if the old ones didn't have them, they must suck in some mysterious way. But I still like 'em.
