Installed 4 CTS 500K Linear pots - I don't like the taper

    Hi all,

I ditched the PCB in my 2013 LPSTD and placed 4 CTS 500 Linear long shaft pots & 2 luxe bumble bee capacitors in it. First I tried 50's wiring, then went to modern.
The result is good to my ears ;o) a nice difference in clarity.

I should have asked earlier, I know.. as I'm not happy with the taper of the tone controls now.
All the 'action' happens between 2 and 3, after 3 it's just so subtle.. Before the mods the action was between 9 and 7.. and I wanted tone controls that are linear to my ears.. looks like my solder iron can heat up again!

Is it as simple as ordering 2 CTS 500K audio taper? (rather than the linear I bought, thinking they would give a linear audible control..) or should I seek a solution to smooth 'all the way' tone control with a different technique?

    Greetings,
    cam

Linear pots for volume, audio taper for tone.
Your ears don't hear linear, thats why linear pots don't sound linear to you.7
Some people even prefer audio taper all around.

OK, I'll go for audio taper. CTS 500 or bourne or 250K?

500k definitely, I have no experience with bourne, but any quality pot will do.

Thanks for the input. I bought 2 CTS 500K XL audio taper pots this weekend and installed them in the tone position.
Now the tone control on the guitar is what I wanted it to be ;o)

I wired them 50's. I really like it for the neck Burstbucker pro, but for the bridge 498T I will go back to modern (I don't want to lose output when rolling back the tone on the bridge).

Glad it worked out. Audio for tone for sure! It's amazing to me that some major sources sell linear taper pots as their default selection. With a linear pot for tone, you might as well put your cap on a toggle switch.

Where did you find 500k linear CTS pots? I'm looking but not finding them.
    Thanks

IDK what came stock in my 13' Traditional but the taper of both tone and volume is smooth and pretty even from 1 to 10. Would never consider changing them.

The taper on my 1993 Studio and 1995 Standard is perfect as well.
I think that with the Standard 2013, the PCB with its pull/push, split, OoO and such is different than a Traditional 2013.
