    Hello,

a friend of mine recently bought this SG 2nd hand (or 3rd, or more.. who knows??).
the guy who sold it said it was a 71, but my friend would like to have more information about it (year, pick ups, model, serie, if it's an original, and so on).

so if you have information to give about it, you're welcome!:thumb:

    here are the pictures:

Early '71. SG Standard in Walnut Brown
Those are Patent number T Tops.

    Killer SG.

Pot codes could nail down the approximate time of build..

Kris pretty much nailed it with the info.
Mahogany body & neck, rosewood fretboard. Looks all original.

If you ever wondered how good these can sound, listen to any AC/DC album up through Back in Black.
This is the exact same guitar Angus used on every album.

I have one.. that was once exactly like this one. But, it's been bastardized and fiddled with... some before I got it, and some after I got it, almost 30 years ago now. Wow, 30 years. That's kinda scary. I literally was just playing it about an hour ago.

Mine is in much worse, and almost completely non-original, condition... So, I am not much help.

But, by the features like the volute and the batwing pick guard, I traced mine to late 70, I guess mine could also be an early 71... I don't have any original electronics on it any more... they're long gone now... :(

I like my SG. I love the really low frets, but wish the nut were a touch wider. the carve not he neck is nice, it's nice and rounded, so it's not a complete toothpick. But, it's a good player.

As mentioned already by Kris, this is a late 70's early 71 SG Standard, in GREAT condition, VERY nice catch there. Pickups will be T-Tops. Opening the cavity and giving us the pot codes will make the dating even more accurate.
But that IS a great catch indeed, she's in stunning condition. Congrats to your friend for this beauty :) !

Man, that is really making me miss the '70 SG standard I sold here a while back. Probably my biggest selling regret of them all.

    hello,

thank you very much for all those info.
my friend is really happy to learn all this stuff about his new guitar.
yes, it's a cool guitar, it feels great, much better than the 2 SG I have owned (from the 2000s). it has a fast attack and it sounds great on my 18w replica. a real rock guitar.
