If you don't think your ISP is throttling you... you may be wrong.

    This is a one-person anecdote.

I called my ISP to see about changing plans to get a lower speed (and therefore lower price). I run speedtest.net regularly, and see 55-70down/5up speeds, all the time.

While I was on the phone with the service rep, my internet dropped. gone, for about a full minute.

We finished up the call, turns out I'm already on the cheapest plan. Since that dropout, I have been getting 120down/12up. Almost double what I had.

I swear they triggered the "some guy is complaining about his internet" update, when that's not really what I called about.

Did your ISP merge with another one recently? That's usually what happens. You're on a plan with Company A. Company B buys Company A, but has different (usually better) plans. If you aren't complaining, Company B keeps you at a more expensive / slower plan. But if you call, they'll switch you.

I received an email from Xfinity telling me they wanted to improve my experience so they bumped me from 75 to 150, no charge. I'm waiting to see if something comes of it later, but for now, speedtests tells me we're getting 180. No complaints here.

you're just being paranoid. the guy working in customer service is just some squid that answers phones. if they throttled someone every time they got a call to make a change or a complaint, the majority of the people using the internet would be getting dial up speeds.

I seriously need to upgrade hardware. All my congestion comes from my router and my ancient laptops.

Mine went through a merger last year, and I've been meaning to call. Just did, and now I'm saving $13 / month and getting 40 more Mbps. :) Actually faster than they advertise. My plan went from 60 to 100.

I don't care about upload speed as long as I'm getting the download speed I'm paying for, and this looks close enough.

I don't know what people are doing with all that download speed capability. Nothing needs these speeds to stream, and if you're downloading, who cares whether something takes a couple minutes or a couple seconds.

Download speed doesn't really matter once you get past 100-200 Mbps. Ping is more important... And yours is awesome as well!

I have to use Cat5 to the modem to get those speeds. If I use the wireless card in my desktop instead, I have to suffer with only 200Mbps :hyper:

It was something I wanted and Bell had it. I have the FIBE package with internet and HDTV. No caps, but I bet a portion of what I'm paying goes towards that.

Better to have it and not need it. I upgraded to 4k recently. I think Netflix requires at least 25 Mbps for that. Plus, if my wife and daughter are streaming their own stuff at the same time, it can all as up.
