You'll get no argument from me. I have two of them, a Tele and a Strat.
I like Mexican Fenders - but sorry, not even a '59 Fender could get me to watch a Weezer vid.......
I love my '72 Telecaster Custom. I'm looking forward to adding a Classic Series '70 to my collection. I love Fender for making those '70s construction techniques available in their current production line.
(imo) A used MIM is always a good bet. Plenty out there and they Rock!
X2! I have a 1979 hard tail with a rosewood neck, but it was such a an anchor (plus I realized I do not like hard tails). Got me one of them classic series '70 3 bolt bodies in Olympic white and its by far one of my fave Strats.
It is timely that you posted this. I JUST was able to buy a Classic Series 70 strat. This one is black with a maple neck, which I'd never seen before, so it is possible that someone refinished a natural. It comes on Friday, already bought Kluson Revolution tuners (I made that change to my 72 Tele Custom) and to jazz it up, I bought green keystone tips. The previous owner threw graphtech saddles on it, which I would have done anyway. Cannot wait to plug it in!
My #1 is a MIM Strat. I threw some Fender noiseless pups in there, courtesy of @DarrellV, and it's just perfect. Feels right, plays right, sounds right. Must be right. Leo Fender knew what he was doing.
Almost for sure a refinish. They've only come in Natural, burst or Olympic White since they were introduced. I used to own a Natural and loved it, and thinking of getting another this year.
Love love LOVE that guitar!
If you can't find one that suits you... build one!
1995 MIM Fender Maple neck
2002 MIM Fender Off White body
Fender locking tuners
Fender 57/62 pickups
MIM Fender Bridge with high mass block
MIM Fender 3 ply PG with high end components and cloth pullback wiring
Dunlop Strap locks
I love my mim Strat....I’ll never sell it!
You guys know the old saying about Mexican Strats...
...”the only difference between a Mexican Strat and a American Strat is about 90 miles”
Down to one MIM tele... but kinda wish hadn't sold the others. They were all dang good guitars.
I tend to key in on the FSR (Fender special run) MIMs... not sure if any better in general, however have yet to come across a bad one.
