Sweet. I always liked those. I had a double lipstick version from the same time period. It was REALLY cool. Enjoy!!!

My wife had one of those first-run reissues (a U-2). Yours has a common flaw that hers suffered and that's a collapsed bridge. If you take off the bridge plate, you can hammer it back flat against a block of wood or something non-marring. It'll presumably bend back down again over time, but hers stayed good after I did that for a year or two, up until the point she sold it at least. I've seen a lot of folks say those very first reissues were the best. Hers was really fun!

I was looking at that and very nearly took a hammer to it...but then I looked at the piece of Rosewood that acts as the saddle, and its cut to the shape of the bend....So I didn't hit it....just cleaned it and put it back together....Also I can't get that E string to set right under the bridge slot....I expect that to fail....I may have to address that

That one looks great, lovely colour.

I have one of the 90s ones and apart from the fact that it had a hard earlier life, and actually looks battered and vintage, it is a fun guitar

As for the bowing bridge, mine did the same. I simple mod is to flatten it out, then put a small screw or a metal shim under the middle part of the bridge to support it.

I know folk who have replaced the whole bridge, but the simple bridge with the rosewood saddle is part of the Dano tone IMO.

It's just deformed by string pressure -- straighten out the bridge plate and the strings will bend the ends of the rosewood back down straight. It's not a huge issue with the bend, but it does mean the middle strings will sit a little lower than the outer ones, relative to the fretboard.

Love those 90's MIK's. It's one of those brands that I've always liked, yet never pulled the trigger.

Strange that there isn't an aftermarket plate that doesn't bend? I'm not talking about a whole new bridge, just a plate that doesn't bend?

I did some re-search and it appears that this in a bent one....but it doesn't affect the playability at all....There are a few fixes on you tube....I suppose I could (if there's time) attempt a repair and fix .....so the wood bridge is compressed on either end.....will it reform or do I need a new piece of wood?

I really love the 14" radius on the neck __ and the aluminum nut .

not the most expensive guitars , but so much fun to play . Congrats

Congrats! I have a 98 U2 in copperburst. Sweet sweet guitars. I put a six saddle bridge on and put away the OEM one. Enjoy your new Dano.

I put a brand name of "Allparts" type bridge on mine, which dropped right in. I used the OEM screws instead of the ones which came with the bridge I installed. I don't appreciate the original bridges that the U2s came with, including the very well made reissue I have. Some folks insist on having the original one on their Danos and I respect that also very much. I find it a major improvement when I changed out my birdge. Jimmy Page changed out the bridge on his Dano Standard to a Leo Quan bridge.

One of the things which sort of bugged me about the original bridge is that the strings barely look like they are hanging on to the end of the bridge. This might have cut the mustard back in the mid 50s through 1969 when Danelectro closed its' doors, however I feel today with available parts we can improve on an already lovely musical instrument.

On StewMac Dan Erlewine has a video ( I believe it is also on youtube ) where he does some modding to improve the OEM bridge.
