As I was posting in the "show me your SG" thread it dawned on me .... I am liking my SG more than the LP's or others I have these days. It has been years and years of LPs and variations of super strats and HH teles, etc. I am doomed ...

There’s nothing wrong with that. I have recently fallen in love with SGs as well.

I only have an SG Standard. I’ve had a few LP’s in the past, but there’s something about an SG that I like just a little more. They’re just raw sounding with more bite than most LP’s.

Hay -- Clapton did it, so it's officially OK. Beano (Mayall, Yardbirds) --> The Fool (Cream; also 335s) --> Firebirds (Blind Faith) --> Strats (solo). I just picked up an '87 reissue Custom '61 and my goldtop is sitting on its stand... The playability is ridiculous, and the tone I'm getting is really fine. Jump in; don't look back. I believe that anything that excites you musically is worth pursuing without reservation.

SGs (as well as V's and 335s) got me off LP's pretty fast. My only LP now is a Junior.

As an average to slightly above average ability player, I always find myself going back to my SG. I bought my first LP this year, and I love it. However, the SG is just so comfortable to play sitting down, and to me it's actually more fun to play than my LP. The playability of the SG is just fantastic.

For whatever reason, I feel like a much better guitar player when rocking the SG. It's just a lot smoother and more fluid to me.

Well it was released as a Les Paul so maybe you can be forgiven.

Since purchasing my 2013 SGJ 3 years ago, apart from a few jazz type gigs, my one and only Gibson LPS has remained in its' case.
I can't get over how well the 490R/490T work in the SGJ regardless of the odd covers (which I do like). I love the 24 frets and maple neck.

I’ve gone thru phases. Went thru a PRS phase a couple years ago. But I always come back to the Les Paul. I recently picked up an SG again after a good 8 years without. I am really digging the weight (or lack thereof)

Les Pauls balance better...SG's neck dive a little too much for me. I do play my others in certain situations, but always fall back to the Lesters for most stage work. :applause:

SGs will always be my favorites. I have 3. I only have one LP so far, although a second isn't out of the question.

I fell back in love with my best Tele yesterday, after exclusively playing the 'Burst for a few months now. Might be the best sounding guitar I've ever owned. 20180105_181621.jpg

My own little observations on the SG

    its lighter
the neck "sticks out" more, making it more comfy, but also possibly creating neck dive
the necks tend to be a bit fatter
the tone is less "mid heavy", making it quite different in tone from most LPs

Personally, I consider the SG a prettier guitar than any LP, regardless of flame, figure or quilt

If you plan on standing, the SG is a joy to play.

Pete Townshend plays an SG (or at least he did!)

You turned to the devil side of the guitar. You are doomed indeed.

Opening this thread I thought I was going to see another PRS something-something. Traitor? No way. Play what makes you move and leave the rest on the pegs! :cheers2:

A Fender Tele through a tweed Champ is tone heaven. (Not trying to hijack the thread.)
