Sometimes when I'm playing my guitar, my older brother steps in with his guitar and wants to jam some GNR tunes with me, which is fun and all, but there's one problem. I'm usually tuned to Eb (GNR is too), and my brother is tuned to E.

Once in a while I'll crank out some Zeppelin songs on standard, but I'm reluctant to tune it up and down a bunch of times in a row, so I tell my brother to go down to Eb so we can jam to a backing track or something, but he chooses to fine tune his current tuning and tells me to fix my guitar up instead.

Is there a solution for this kind of ignorant stubbornness?

Kill him. It's your only recourse.

Doing that requires me to digitally change the backing track's pitch a half step up, and I'm too lazy to do that :p

Only one Gibson Les Paul, it's blasphemy to play GNR with other guitars ;)

Sounds like he's reluctant to tune it down and up a bunch of times in a row.

The advice to get E backing tracks is your winner.

You need a bunch of guitars for exactly this reason. Look what it is doing to your family!

I've got guitars set up in at least 5 different tunings. So, I can just switch guitars and play.

When he is out of the house, take his guitar and tune it to Eb.

What’s the issue with tuning up or down?

He barely touches the thing, let alone tune it down/up

I'd probably skip the jams, then.

Some people's kids...funny thing. there's a thread on another guitar forum about a brother who is too ignorant and stubborn to tune to standard to jam for a while.

He's in standard tuning, I'd say you need to get over it.

Clearly, the two of you need - at minimum - a third guitar. Better yet, a second guitar for each of you. Time to go shopping. It's the only way.
