This is a very easy answer. About three years ago I decided I was never going to sell any of my gear again. The reason was I was buying gear that I had previously owned before. So that contributes greatly.

I have 10 total. Six are in my main rotation. What I play depends on what kind of sound I'm going for at the time. I certainly don't need this many but I like having options.

That gold top is a reissue? Looks awesome! What year was it's made and who aged it?

Collection as per my signature. Still have several on my wish list. It's more fun then having savings sat in a bank. Especially with current interest rates. I rotate mine every week for practice with the band.

The way I see it, you need at least 16:
    acoustics
    small-, med- & large-bodied steel-string 6s
    12-string
    classical
    archtop
    resonator
    banjitar
    bass

    electrics
    solid w/buckers
    solid w/P90s
    solid w/F-type singles
    thinline
    jazz box
    12-string
    bass

Each has it's own sonic niche; you need each of these, but do not need more than one of any.
    It's when I start thinking I need a 45+ level Martin Custom Shop matching set in sizes 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, 00, 000, OM, OM12, M, M12, J, J12, D, D12, & B that I get worried. But an addiction? Nah, I can stop any time I want. Well, as soon as I have all those. That'll be enough. Really.

Oh, wait - what was I thinking???? I forgot you need Dreadnaught & Jumbo large-bodies. And maple & rosewood 12s. And tricone, biscuit, & spider resonators - each in wood and metal. And hollow & semi hollow thinlines - with HBs & P90s. And hollow, semi, & solid 12s. And jazz boxes with buckers, P90s, and Alnicos...................

Did I answer your question? :dunno:

Gibsonman63 - nice collection, I love those Spec Ed/Custom Color Marshalls!

I currently have 16 (14 Elec/2 Acou) but I have 3 on the want/watch for list and I am hoping to move 5-8 out this year too so I am hoping to be at or under a "Bakers Dozen" when the dust settles. I rotate them and play a few a day but for me taking care of them (setups, fresh strings, keeping them out of the way/moving them around house - I don't leave them out when not playing) has me maxed out at 16.

Ten is probably a pretty good number I think, but there are just so many nice guitars out there, tough not to have 20+.

I have one USA strat and partscaster tele. Other than that I have probably enough parts laying around to assemble a strat partscaster.

I have 35 at this current time (down from 43 at Christmas!)

    I have 11 acoustics, 6 bass's, 18 electrics.

My wife hates each and every one of them. . . and don't get her stared on amps and P.A. systems - she'll flip a switch and kill everyone in the room!!

There are some nice guitars in this thread. My wife thinks I have a problem- I just need to send her here if she starts getting cranky.

    Let's see…. 3 Guitar Logistics, 2 Gibsons, 1 Peavey, 1 Martin, 1 Alvarez.
I guess that's 8 here. Two more may be departing and 1 more arriving.
Seven is apparently my lucky number. Oh wait…. need a guitar to put the custom wound pickups in that are on the way.
OK, 8 is all I need.

Sure man, they are some of the best sounding P90s I've ever heard. They are Lindy Fralin hum cancelling with a 5% over wind. I own two of John Widman's guitars and they are just awesome. This one is a Deluxe Gigmaster which has binding and a few other cosmetic features the standard doesn't have. The Deluxe goes for $1850 and I think the Standard is $1700. I've had several really nice Gibson Custom shop guitars, high end PRS, etc. and no joke, this is one of the finest playing, sounding and feeling instruments I've ever played. And John is just one of the coolest dudes ever, just great to work with. Check out his site and shoot him an email if you'd like. He will do all different kinds of tops and finishes. This is the only one he has done with a sitka spruce top. He also has some really cool tops like Koa, Brazilian Blood Wood and Wenge. He did have some 100 + year old wood in the shop for making tops.
