Hanging by their headstocks, but if in a case then flat on the back where possible to avoid knocking it over.

I have mine standing upright with a very slight lean against the wall. I do love the idea of the racks.

Would you believe me if I told you that's and old photo...:D

Caught a deal at Lowes a few weeks back got 3 more sets of racks / 18 shelves for $29 on close out... gear flying everywhere.

im surprised at how many responses this is getting. Thanks everyone for the input. I'm sure it'll be helpful for those who like me, may be hesitant to ask at first.

I really don't care how mine is stored as long as I feel it is safe from some bull crap happening.

That was 8 years ago so, he likely has four or five racks by now.

Guitars are stored in cases upright leaning against the back of the closet. Only problem, you'll need another level midway in the closet for more than 20 cases. Vertical is easier to retrieve your guitar. Also use masking tape with a description of the guitar in the case.

Amps are a pain to store...

Upright. If you store it on it's side or back and don't have the truss rod cover on, the mojo leaks out and you sound like me. Don't make the same mistake I made.
