Not only gig with it, he used the greeny for almost all solos in the last album (as well James used it for some riff). Honestly I believe it's his number one these days, but he has millionaire contracts with ESP...so ya know.

the original owner sold the thing, and to many people is more famous for having owned a famous guitar he had to sell, than for their music.

I'd rather listen to Kirk Hammet play the thing anyway.

    thats right I said it.

You'd rather hear Kirk Hammet play it than Peter Green? Well... everyone has their own opinions.

I personally disagree. I think it is great personally. Les Pauls are not just for blues tones. They are rock guitars and what band better at rock than Metallica. Plus the guys in Metallica are huge Thin Lizzy fans!

If anyone deserved to own this guitar it was Kirk. At least he is bringing it back to life on the road. It's not sitting in someones house as a collector piece doing nothing. It's actually getting played for millions of fans around the world to enjoy again.

Can you please post a clip of the amazing Peter Green? I am dying to hear what makes him so "special" that would make the present owner unworthy.

I was surprised at how good it sounded even on high gain. Most likely the amp, but it even does a good thrash metal tone.

I didn't say Kirk Hammett is "unworthy"... and I didn't say Peter green is/was "special'. I didn't in any way criticize Kirk Hammett, his playing or anyone who enjoys his playing. I simply intimated that I would prefer to listen to Peter Green. I am a blues/rock guy and I love to listen to the great blues guitarists from the 60s and 70s. And Peter Green was one of the best of that era. If you're interested in hearing some of his work, check him out for yourself, there's stuff all over youtube for all to hear.

Here's the whole pro-shot Edmonton show. "Greeny" makes its appearance at least in four songs (mins 1:03:10, 1:49:00 (two straight songs) and 2:15:15). :applause:

Les Pauls are killer for harder rock/metal. Many seem to look at the Les Paul as a blues or 70's style rock guitar, which they are great at also, but they are awesome at high gain too.

So true! 95% of what I play is hard rock or metal, and my Pauls just SHINE.

    Who sold more records?

    Who plays to bigger crowds?

    Who is still alive?

    Gary Moore goes 0-3

I have no dog in the fight. Never even heard of Gary Moore before joining MLP. But the points listed (except being alive in some cases) could be applied to every pop act of the last 60 years. I just think bringing record sales into any conversation regarding music is pretty pointless.

It's all personal opinion anyways. Yes, I listen to way more Peter Green than Metallica, but that doesn't make me "right". I just prefer the sounds that he made come out of the guitar over Kirk.

    Closing argument... meh. :dunno:
