Kirk Hammett busted out a very familiar guitar last night in San Diego. He used it on Fade To Black and Nothing Else Matters (if I recall correctly, I was pretty fired up). Looks like he hasn't blasphemed it with the ubiquitous EMG pickups, thank goodness. greeny1.jpeg greeny2.jpeg greeny3.jpeg

Hammett gets a lot of props for buying that iconic guitar, and then actually taking it out and USING it. If your guitar is famous enough on it's own to have a name and be recognizable by MILLIONS, you better not be keeping it in a vault, unseen and unheard of forever ! I'm sure that he has to take serious precautions for that on tour, but it's just the responsibility of ownership.

Agreed. Good it's being used, it's spent too many years locked away since Gary sold it.
Much like Joe Bonamassa, Kirk obviously believes that guitars are made to be played.

I will add that it sounded "airy" compared to his ESP strats.

I have seen him use Greeny on songs that they perform a full step down (Whiskey and Seek). They usually perform Fade and Nothing half step down, so this would be something new.

I am glad this guitar didn't end up in a vault not to be played again.
I am sure Peter Green and Gary Moore would've agreed that.

We have to give credit to Kirk Hammett for this. WahWahtever we think of him.

Thank you Mr Hammett. :thumb: :applause:

I was thinking the same thing... As a HUGE Gary Moore fan I have to say that guitar just looks wrong in Kirk Hammett's hands. Sorry....

I think the $300 million that Kirk is worth takes the edge off of that a little bit.

I am always struck by the irony that a guitar so renowned for its tone was purchased by someone whose playing is so renowned for the lack of it.

Not me. I understand that MONEY is what rules over everything. Love, talent, luck, intelligence, knowledge. If you have enough of it, you can have whatever you want. And Kirk has a shit load.
With enough money you can buy people! You can change the outcome of elections in which control the future governing of countries! Of the planet!
This is not a trick question people! It's not who's black, or who's white. It's who's GREEN!

True, of course. But the old "lipstick on a pig" idiom applies here. A unique instrument such as this can only be appreciated if its qualities can be brought out by the player.
If the choice is either in the hands referenced here or having it on display with "Blues For Greeny" running on a loop, well...:(

He's using it on songs with very emotive solos, if that's any consolation for the purists.

I agree its very cool to see him use it. And maybe its just me, but I find criticism of any musician who has reached the level of success Hammett has as completely absurd.
