    Dear friends,

I'm about to receive my EDS-1275 (I play in a Zep tribute band) and have a easy silly question since I'm a novice with 12 strings : How do I tune them ? I've seem some replies but not clear enough concerning the octaves.

Sorry if it seems stupid...shame on me !

Any help for this soul ?
    Thanking in advance,

The high E and B strings are exactly the same. All the other strings have a wound string at standard pitch, and another steel string one octave higher. Notice that when you strum down you hit the high octave first, then the low (wound string).

I usually start with the standard tuning strings first, then go back and tune the octaves.

    It's a tedious job, tuning a 12-string. :)

Not a dumb question at all. It's only dumb if you don't ask! :)

Hi B! Thanks a lot for your reply and kindness !
Yes, I could imagine it's a tedious job...
I've already played on a friend of mine 12 string acoustic guitar but never tuned it ;)

    Tks !

I would imagine you got the red one, right?

Can you guess I'm a Rush fan? :)

I had one in the 90's and used it for Tesla, Bon Jovi, & LedZep, plus some originals. I frickin loved playing it except for two things: (1) string changes took forever; (2) 20 fret necks.

I hear ya. Hard to get up to the top of the neck as well.

I was watching Zep on DVD last night, and Jimmy didn't even finish the high part of the solo on STH...did it at the 5th fret. :)

    Congrats on the double neck!

I had one in 1980's and the only thing worse than tuning that darn thing is restringing it. The Gibson is nowehere near as bad as a Rickenbacker, though. Biggest mistake I made was selling that guitar. The 12-string neck was fabulous but the six-string -- well, that still burns as one of the best playing and Les Paul sounding Gibsons I've ever had.

Here are a couple vid-caps of me recording with it in the mid-80's.

Best of luck with your new guitar!

I put Ernie Ball Slinky strings on both necks. They are 10s.

Ahhh..that's right! 0.11 it's easy to find from Ernie.
By the way, have you ever wondered/know which gauge Page used in this 12?
Thanks again for your help ;)
