DUH! hot glue and liquid nails ftw.
Listen to Splattle. He knows.
Soldered in tubes, though? That's some of the funniest crap I've read on MLP in a LONG time, and that says a lot!
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
(that is all I have to say about that)
Nah man, deffo soldered in...Wish I'd taken pictures now. It had some metal prongs soldered in through the board.
It sure sounds like you're talking about the tabs on the underside of the tube socket.
I'm starting to wonder if it was some shitty refurb now. Id still had the retention brackets on the tube, but there was no socket...
I thought this was normal, now ive a mystery on my hands.
no tube sockets?
So you're thinking someone removed the tubes from the sockets, desoldered the tube sockets from the board, soldered the tubes back in, somehow fit the retainers back over the tubes and sold it to you that way?
Perhaps someone broke the valve socket, soldered it to the board to fix it, then sold it on - possibly.
~ perhaps aliens did it? just to piss me off.
there has got to be something missing from this story. you have no photos at all?
I must see this work of engineering... do you have a pic?
if it didn't have tube sockets, did you solder in new tube sockets?
if someone did sell you a hack job like that, 1) I hope you got a good deal, and 2) if not, I'd be finding that person
I didn't think to take any at the time, I thought it was normal, being made in china n all. Next time im in there, i'll snap some.
Perhaps it's some crazy chinese knock off - wouldnt that be something.
How could you even see the underside of the tube sockets? They are covered by the PC Board on a TT...
they should have worked the union jack into the circuitry. that would have been badass.
The tube sockets are soldered to the PC board.
and the tubes are soldered into the sockets.
and the instrument cable is soldered into the input jack
and the other end is soldered into the guitar.
Where do you insert your tuner then?
