Thanks! Yeah, I dig it. I was a little put off by the weight, but it had a really good setup and just played really well. Couldn't resist.

All the rage back then! More weight = more sustain...

You could always do the @Who mod for weight relief and toanz improvement :laugh2:

Nice find! Especially with new frets to boot!

My 73 had a pretty-tight C-neck, beefy but not much for shoulders. Other guys who played it expressed surprise at its heft, because the Norlins they'd played were slender like yours.

I'm guessing that like their serial numbers and design changes, they were all over the map.

they absolutely were......but I tend to run up on more slim ones than chunky.

I haven't played so many that I have a good baseline average, so your opinion is probably more relevant.

Like I said, I had others express surprise at its heft, but back in 87, I expected all Pauls to have a baseball bat (I didn't know a damned thing about 60s necks etc), so it wasn't a deal-breaker -- especially since I'd been playing a 12-str acoustic for four years (aside from the Strat copy).

Interesting is, that the logo looks like 73 one or later too. :hmm:

Isnt the first serial number digit 8 instead of 9?

I have a little mountain of Silvertone. If you've never tried one, I highly recommend the 1483. Total sleeper, like half a Bassman while retaining the tone/balls.

Congrats on your GT! My guess as to why the bridge route is too small for a full size 'bucker is that someone added some wood back before the refin.

Bridge goof ring is stock..thinking post '72 for this one due to head stock logo.

I really wanna say I can see the nail holes in the corners here:

Persnally, I would do whatever routing and filling is necessary to get a clean and good-looking mounting of whatever PUs you choose, and then refinish the top more thinly. Maybe it's the pics, but that finish looks very thick and the clearcoats look excessive. It's a very nice guitar despite someone having made some odd choices as far as PUs and rings. I'd get it squared away now.

It's a piece of junk. I'll be glad to haul it to the dump for you, and I'll even pay shipping, because I'm such a nice guy.

Seriously speaking, you got yourself a great guitar. Somebody had nothing but LOVE for this baby! Congrats, and enjoy! :cheers2:
