Help identifying possible 1970 Les Paul Custom/restore project!

    Headstock looks like late 71, still not the full blown big wide Norlin diamond shape which came in very late 71. 2nd and third fret inlays are same wide, so it latest a late 71 when they switched to thinner third inlay. Otherwise its a real golem...

    That's not a Gibson LPC fretboard. For one thing, like I was saying, it's too porous for ebony. Secondly, the inlays are plastic, not MOP. Lastly, there's no binding at the end of the board and no room for any, either. It could certainly be a totally replaced fretboard, but I think this is much more likely to be an old MIJ copy with a Gibson overlay.
