    Hello MyLesPaul forum members :)

As my first post I would like to ask for your advice. I'm interested in purchasing a used Epi Les Paul Standard from a swedish website similar to craigslist. The seller lives in my town, so I'll be able to test the guitar before playing it.

From the pictures and serial number it seems that the guitar is a standard transparent red (TR) made in DaeWong - China in 2004. It has some dings (one of them quite big as you will notice), and has been used a lot. The pickup switch has been replaced, but everything else is stock.

At first I was a bit suspicious since I wasn't able to find any other Epi LP with Transparent Red finish, but maybe they simply aren't made this way anymore.

The price is 1700 SEK which is about 268 USD. Now all other used Epi LP
Standards cost between 350 and 580 USD, so this one is quite a lot
cheaper (plus it's close, to I can test it before purchasing).

What so you think? Is it a good buy? When I test it (planning to do so on two days from now), what should I look out for? It's my first time buying a guitar, and this will be my first Les Paul... So I really want to make it right :)

Here are the pictures I have:

I can only see the first pic but it looks good. Decent price too. Go test it out and see how it feels to you.

Just look out for anything strange like uneven color on the neck from a repair that hasn't been told to you.

Also watch the frets to see how they feel or if the neck has any twisting.

Good luck....and if it's got a case don't pay extra make him throw it in.

    Welcome to MLP.

seems like a heck of a deal. and like what Purevilpleasure has said, check for signs of repair. check if the neck is warped, if the frets are still good. crackling pots (although these are easy to fix or replace).
tell him to throw in the pickguard and switch chip :laugh2:

Wow, thanks for the quick answers!

Oh, I suspected the other pictures wouldn't work... So I uploaded them to imageshack :) ImageShack Album - 4 images
    Please check them out!

It doesn't seem the be a case included, let's se if he has one lying around... The pickguard is included though!

Is there anything that is good to refer to in order to try lowering the price during negociations?

Is the asking price worth it to you? If so, pay it, and be happy!

It is pretty, play it, see what you think of it. Good luck & welcome.

Not a bad looking guitar, even with the ding. I just picked up an '05 from Craigslist, with similiar damage, for $175. I didn't mind the damage as I was just looking for another " beater ". Surprisely, the pickups sounded quite good and I have no immediate plans to change them. Who knows, you may luck it be a real " jewel ".

I got it! And wow, it's a real beauty!!! Looks a lot better than in those pictures for sure.

I've already named her, now I just need to take some pictures of my own (that hopefully will do her more justice) and record some sound samples...

Again, thank you for your help and support :)

Here are some pictures I took. The color seems to always brighten up a bit when viewed on a screen, so have in mind that she actually is a bit darker (more "lipstick red") than in the pics. http://img24.imageshack.us/g/img0070ek.jpg/

Sound sample will come up as soon as I manage to record something I'm not embarassed to show you guys... :hmm:
