Have I broken the volume pot?

Hi all, have just bought an 83 custom Les Paul.
One of the volume pots was a bit scratchy so I wrapped a cloth around the base of the knob to remove but the shaft came out with the knob attached. I've stuffed it right? I'm guessing I have to replace the pot. Are these a standard item or do customs have a specific part. The shaft looks like brass with a keyed base. Thanks in advance.

A hole? Seriously I haven't gone further with this as I don't want to f*** it. The knob looks swaged to the post though. I've taken the knobs off an LP copy and the post stays connected to the pot base etc so I have no idea at this point.

Ok so here's some pics of the pots with an arrow pointing to the one needing replacement.

I think it's the volume pot for the bridge pickup (rhythm).
And some pics of what I think to be replacement pots.
The difference I can see is:
Gibson one has a pressed washer (arrow) which is missing from the Cts. Mine has the pressed washer so guessing the fit will be better for the knob.
Gibson has extra tabs possibly to attach to the backing plate?

Assuming I need Audio not linear taper for volume?
    Any help appreciated!
