They work for me. Especially with the Ultra-II, so far I've been able to dial in just about any tone I'm searching for. Grass is always greener, though....

Yeah, they're good enough for me ..... for now .... I play for my own enjoyment (and at my liberal church :cool2: ), so, they do the job - which isn't to say I might not swap 'em down the road. They're perfectly fine considering the price point of the guitar, I think.

Depends on the guitar IMO some work just fine some do not. If they work for a person great. I have one (HB)with stock pups that sound good to me. Also depends on the players wants. better made pups usually make a difference, its all a matter of will the player like the difference. Most do some don't.
I changed out the stock open coil in my classic GT for seymour duncan APH1 & custom custom, sold those did not like them, and got Elitist pups for it ,covered, they work great in that guitar.
For some reason though the stock pups I have, sound good and not as hot as the Seymour Duncans or the Elitist. Going to try some better made pup n the HB soon lower K than the Elitist with unbalanced coils.

Most people will tell ya the Epi classic alnico are junk shitty pups. But IMO even if true it is of little matter if they work well for a person. They are indeed not made as well as others but...........

I have the '58 Explorer epi and it currently has the stock pups in it. I used to think they were alright and had no plans on swapping them out, but when I put that guitar away for a while and played my Les copy with the GFS pups, when I went back to the explorer, I realized the pickups were pretty muddy and lacked definition. It probably has something to do with all the wax under the covers. The swap isn't 100% necessary, but it would definitely improve sound clarity.

This brings up the debate of all guitars of any given line being different and some are dead sounding while others are the 1 in 50 'peaches' that sound great - most are middling.

Im guessing the great sounding ones dont need a change in pups! and the crappy ones dont sound much better if you do change 'em.....

are you sure yours are stock? the gold plting does not look worn:) You got it used maybe the owner put different ones in it.
Last year a guy posted pictures of his pickups (the Bottom) used guitar and it had Gibson pickups in it. He was wondering if he should change them.

The Prophecy i have is a good'un mate, very resonant unplugged......

The pups are SUPERB, they eat any amount of distortion and gain, sound solid, even, powerful, great for rock and metal, i even widdle blues on it! cant praise those pups enough, the Dirty Finger pups are meant to be the Gibby version EMG HZ and do a great job, they do not sound sterile at all.

I swap mine, I have been using the same Dimarzio combination for 25-30 years, but also use the Stew-Mac Golden Age Hots in one guitar as well.

nah, the dirty fingers pups were originally out way back in time, they were just brought back into production is all, they are still great pups.

So, I can only find the dirty fingers pups online in the bridge position. does that mean the prophecy has 2 bridge pickups in it?

I gave my son my Epi Les Paul Plus top. I had changed all the electronics, new CTS matched 503K pots, orange drop caps and brand new Gibson burstbucker 1 & 2s and it was night and day difference. My son is a Strat guy and never really fancied my Les Paul until he played it after I upgraded it with all the electronics.

I have a Digitech RP500 pedal system and it's always in the loop. My son wanted to hear just the Les Paul straight into the ValveKing tube combo and he was blown away saying. "that's the tone I've been hearing in my head that I can't get even from his Hiway 1 Strat.

After I bought a Custom Shop R8 he begged me to let him borrow it, I told him I was going to sell it for $500 as I knew it wouldn't get played much after buying that R8 and I figured it would offset some of the price paid for that R8.

He was trying to sell some of his gear to buy that Epi from me for five bills. However, I officially gave it to him on his 30th bday about a month after he took it home. He gigged it the next day after taking it home too!

yeah it is made in just one format, so the Prophecy has two identical pups. gotta say it does fine in the neck position, nice even response and still flutey beyond the 12th fret :)

yeaah they are in that range for sure, some people thought it was a "new" design.

I just wish the dirty fingers were an option on the black prophecy.
