Inspired by the Duane Allman thread, I was thinking on my list of favorite guitarists. Those being: Jimi Hendrix Jerry Garcia Duane Allman Jimmy Page Ritchie Blackmore Johnny Winter Jeff Beck Michael Schenker There are tons more that float in and out of that list, but those guys are consistently on it. However, there are certain guitarists whose appeal I just don't quite get. Not that they aren't any good...only that I don't, and can't seem to connect with them. The #1 on this list for me is Eric Clapton. He's just never really done anything I liked. Layla is fine enough, I suppose (and yes, Duane A. is on that too), but I just find the man's music boring. I've seen him rip it up before, for sure. I own the Cream albums, etc., and remember one very fantastic performance of Little Red Rooster he did on the Stones tour a few years back (live video). But dammit if the man just plain doesn't bore me for the most part.... In the end I guess it's either your thing or it ain't - but Clapton has never been my thing.
