I'm on an SS kick. I'm building a transistor army. I've never owned a Marshall. I do own two vintage Silvertone tubers. They are nice,so are calzones.

I think I really hurt some tender little feelings with this one. Perhaps everyone who participates should get a trophy?

My favorites are not the typicals.
    Marshall sound? Which? Which build?
    Fender sound? Which? Which build?

    Just like:
    Lester sound? Which?

I've never looked at an amp or approached one with the idea it needs to sound like a specific brand of amp. So I can't relate to it sounding like a Fender etc. It sounds good to me or it doesn't for the application at hand. I've got several amps, each with their own characteristics and I like (or in a few cases dislike) them for their own merits. And I might choose one of the other for it's sound, just like choosing a guitar for it's sound.

But like a guitar, even if it sounds great it doesn't mean it is the sound I want at that time for that purpose. If you want a Marshall sound and you're not getting it, then it doesn't matter how good it may sound, it's just not right. Just because I might have a great sounding jazz rig, doesn't mean I'd want to use it to play death metal. That doesn't mean I'm somehow limited in my thinking.

    Horses for courses.
