I've been tempted to grab one of the Tele bodies. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts once you get your LP kit.

I considered one also, but the neck pocket is cut for the 'import' sized necks, and is a bit wide for Fender and Fender-authorized necks.

Hey I ran into, yet, another block in my V. I'm replacing all the hardware and am not sure what type of jack it uses. Enlighten me, please? I'm geussing either a Tele style or rectangular curved but I'm not sure if it's even curved. I need help.

I got my GFS LP-style kit today.
The veneer is microscopically thin! It won't take much sanding!
The back is at least four pieces of very mismatched wood. There's a divot in the cap between the binding and the body wood, and also on the output jack hole.
The plastic parts are nearly yellow.
All in all, it doesn't appear nearly as nice as the one pictured in the photos on the GFS website.
Needless to say, it is going to be a BIG project!
I will get some photos up one of these days.

I'm going to see if Ole' Lefty wants the hardware and electronics for one of his projects, as I will be upgrading as the build goes along.

The kit s look great but I would buy all new electronics, machine heads. The finish would be key, I would not due a sunburst but a treatment like a PRS.

As you can see the top veneer is quite 'flamey'....

In this photo, you can see how loose the neck joint rout is:

    Wood sandwich, anyone?

Eh, wood doesn't look too bad. It looks really pale though. It would be kinda cool if you just threw on some nitrocellulose and accented it with gold hardware.

Yeah that neck joint is shit... I'd probably shim it with some veneers and glue, making sure that it's in a position where the neck is as straight as you can get it. I think it could still be an okay guitar... worst case scenario you'll end up with a decent slide guitar and/or wall decoration. :thumb:

I was thinkin' solid glossy black for the back of the body and neck, like a Studio, and perhaps an orange-ish shade for the top, like a Grestsch....gold hardware, gold pickups, and a Bigsby.
I'm trying to get Ole Lefty talked into lettin' me come up some weekend, so we can see if the kit is workable or not.

On my RR Vee and the Jacksons the jack goes on the inside of the small horn. Its kinda like a Strat jack that plugs in at a 45 deg angle.

The frets don't look seated. Is there a smooth radius on the fingerboard? it does not seem so. Are you supposed to finish the p/u cavities?
    Is this a "B" stock?

I'm going to give it a try. A little shimming should take care of it. If I can't get it together, I'll send it to OJ.....he can fix anything.
