Thanks to the PR stunt Wildwood Guitars did a few weekends ago, I received my very own comparison video from the Man, the Myth, the Legend himself--Greg Koch. I asked him to compare their '17 Modern Standard (Chambered, BB2/3) with their '17 Standard (previously known as an Historic) (solid, Custombuckers). I'm really digging those Modern Standards.

    Enjoy!

    Yea....Great Player!

    they both sounded great!

but me thinkz.... he left but more questions than answered!

Are you getting one or both?

I liked the custom buckers with the less output....The red one sounded a bit thuddy to me in comparison ....

Very sorry, but my personal opinion on this is ........it just proves you can't just have one Les Paul.

    Gotta have one of everything!

    Great vid by the way:thumb:

I liked both but overall liked the red Standard better. IMO it depends on your playing style/music preference.

The red Standard seemed primed for hard/heavy rock, which is more my style. The '17 Standard (Historic) seemed more tame and more primed for bluesy and less overdriven rock.

I thought the second one sounded more "woody" probably due to the chambering. If I had to pick one it would be the first, because it's just so pretty. :)

It sounds more "woody" because it has less wood?

Koch said something about it sounding a little 335ish. So, yeah. ;)

This was my feeling too. I'm digging those chambered Standards and this didn't help my GAS.

And yes, I think Greg is one of the most versatile, talented players I have ever seen. His playing can touch just about any style/genre you can imagine.

I prefer the first one. Both in looks and tone. More bite and definition to my ears.
It appears they are both close in price. So this would be an easy decision for me.

Red one looks beautiful. The first one sounds like a Les Paul should , much more character.
