This amp, made by our VIP member by the same name (aka Don Hills) was reviewed in the new edition of this guitar mag. Congrats, Don! The reviewer seemed to like all features except the single EQ for both chanels. The reviewer said the same thing I told Don when I got mine (and Don had trouble believing), and that is this amp is great for jazz (among other genres). About the shared EQ, the amp MIGHT be more versitle with dedicated EQs, but it might create more "knob fiddling" which can be a nuisance for tone variance that could be done with a knob on the guitar. Idk.

What I do know is that it is one super amp, and I congratulate Don for getting the recognition he deserves.

Yeah, my copy of the mag came yesterday. Saw the listing in the table of contents, and skipped right to that page. Told the wife "hey, I know that guy !" Good for you, Don. We knew you when.

Guys, I get Guitar Player mag only in print, and don't have a digital subscription. So I can't furnish a link to the review. Maybe somebody else can, I hope.

That's great. I went to the GP site and couldn't come up with anything with a search. But I don't subscribe. It usually takes a couple of weeks for the mag to show up on the news stands here on the west coast. I'll be looking for it.

Which months edition is the review in? I'm assuming October, since I have September and I don't see it.

I'll look for it. It'll be interesting to see if the panel has evolved any. Here's a pic of mine:

Thanks, guys! I haven't seen the article, still waiting for the mag to arrive. I'm told, at some point there will be a short demo or two on the website and youtube.

Drew, the back panel is a bit different:
    1. O/D trim control
    2. There are now 3 fuses (main, B+, DC heaters)
    3. Foot switch bypass toggle
And there are some changes inside:
    1. Regulated DC power for V1 & V2 heaters. This helps lower the noise floor.
    2. Another gain stage (tube) which kicks up the O/D.

And KT88 tubes. Mine has 6L6's. I think you were just starting to experiment with the KT's when you built mine. That back panel has a lot going on. Very nice Don. Congrats on getting the review published. That's a milestone.:applause:

My issue finally arrived. Dave Hunter did a nice write up. I'm pleased and grateful! He touched on the important points.

The Wraith seems to have evolved a great deal since I got mine, which Don told me was the third one ever made. More knobs and functions now. Made me initially want to hire Don to add these to mine. But on second thought, it gets the tone I want, so don't fix it if it ain't broke!

DB, there have been changes. But probably none you would feel are important to your playing. The regulated DC heaters helps lower the noise floor during high gain. The additional gain stage adds scorching high-gain. The O/D trim helps dial in the high-gain. I think all of these features affect the amp most in ways you wouldn't use (extreme high-gain).

The Wraith has evolved into an EXTREMELY complex amp. Lot's of circuitry and flexibility.

Here are the pics used in the article.

Don, that's what I was thinking. My playing isn't super high gain. Rather, I like to set the amp so I can control the clean/dirty equation with attack and guitar volume knob, and my version of the Wraith is perfect for that.
