After buying my Custom earlier this year, I have taken a liking to gold hardware.
I realised I should have bought my white Studio with gold hardware back then .

So I decided to rectify that error, and while I'm at it, convert my Telecaster and my Epiphone Texan to gold as well. This thread will document my "journey" as I'll take a while to do this (stuff is $$$ :p)

And of course, show off some of my guitars to fellow enthusiasts :D

Lets start with the Texan, since this is the easiest one, I just need to change the tuners and TRC screws. The Texan comes with some really good quality Wilkinson machine heads, no play in them at all. I decided to buy just the same ones, only in gold for an easy exchange.

The guitar in question, a surprisingly good acoustic for little money:

    Swapping the first half:

Those press-in studs are a beyotch to get out

New bushings in, swapping the TRC screws for gold ones too
    [IMG]

Second half in, looking good :thumb:

Now I only need to string up again:

I'll post some better pics tomorrow, when there is daylight.

Next up: progress on my LP Studio and on the Tele.

Finished Epiphone IB64 Texan, lookin good

Alpine White Studio, so far only gold screws, switch nut and pickguard bracket.
I have new pickup covers and polepiece screws lying here, but I want to do those when I get the bridge, tuners and tailpiece, so I only have to take the strings off once.

Gold Schaller straplocks and screws. The neck and some other spots are slowly turning yellow from use.

Progress so far on the Tele, I have a new bridge and neck plate on the way

    Some new parts arrived:

    Out with the old:

    Allparts FAT neck, baby:

    Clean neck route, not bad
    [IMG]

    Stock bridge off:

    New Wilkinson gold bridge, nice:

String ferrules don't fit, they are a bit larger:

I just ordered a De Lisle Brass Ferrule Block, no more single ferrules:

New golden neck plate with screws:

And finally a new output jack:

The tuners should arrive next week, I hope the brass ferrule block will be over from the USA quick.

Next up will be converting the Studio to gold and the Trad to Nickel, but that'll have to wait until the Christmas bonus comes around end of November.

Looking good! I like that ferrule block.

I don't think I've ever seen a mod on here that spans multiple guitars before :).

Looking forward too trying the block as well, it is supposed to improve the sound, but maybe thats just Voodoo. On the other hand brass saddles do make a noticable difference so we'll have to see.

Mostly it will hide my shoddy work, as I don't have the tools to cleanly drill and sink larger holes. With the ferrule I can simply use a chisel and the overlap will hide any imperfections.

Hm, weird. I tried out the album function on MLP. Let me take a look....

EDIT: Aha, for some reason the settings were set to "owner only". Should work now

Yep, I'm a sucker for gold as well. I blame it on my owned for 41 years Norlin Black Beauty - all gold there, even though much of it has been worn.

Both of my Martins came with chrome tuners - no more. Schallers for both!

VERY nice guitars you got there. I actually like it when the gold wears in a little.
Gives it more character. Thats why I'm changing out the chrome hardware, it always looks the same.

The Martins are my first bought new. I like the shiny gold - matches the headstock logo very well.

I've also polished the rosewood headplates from its lame satin finish to glossy. Need to get pics of those ...

Managed to sell off some gear, so I had a little cash and decided to complete my white Studio.
The DeLisle brass tone block for the Tele arrived as well, maybe I'll get around to that tomorrow.

I'll confess to loving gold hardware on white guitars. I like it on Teles, too. And I think it looks great against dark mahogany. Though some dislike worn gold hardware, I think it can look really great when it has mellowed. Unfortunately, there's a lot of Gibson stuff where the plating was so bad, notably on the pickups, that it just flakes off, which looks really crappy. Ypur stuff looks really good with the changeover. Now -- just don't change your mind again!

Managed to get the Tele done today :cool2:

Chiseled out the backside for the brass block.
Good thing I don't have to earn my money with woodworking

Fits nicely. I decided to add a bit of white wood glue, just to keep it in place.

Time to string it up, Elixir ftw !

It even matches the gold neckplate in colour :yesway:

Time to set the pickup heights and intonation:

Intonation is spot-on with the compensated saddles, very happy with that Wilkinson bridge :yesway:
Now just put the pickguard back on:

Time to call it a day, now the only thing I need is a gold control plate. Haven't found one with the angled switch, might just have to go back to a "normal" one.

That looks fantastic with the burst finish. I'm usually not a fan of that pick guard pattern, but it really works there. Nicely done!

You might be able to find someone who could electroplate the control bit.

Thank you ! Yeah, I'm not huge on perloid pickguards either most of the time. But it does work well with the burst and binding.

I'll have to see about the control plate, it works for now as it is.
