It will be close enough.
I've had good experiences with these guys, can't say what S&H will cost for you
Isn't it like getting a PAF replica? You can't get the exact pickup, but this is the closest you can get to a TTop. That's been my understanding at least.
I've got a 490R in my bridge without the A5. I should put one in
490r with no wax
YES! I completely forgot this part.
Just did it. Thank you
Another video demo (after years!) of the T-top replica plus the real deal PAF in the neck
Poor recording quality but I hope it still gives you the idea

I'm thinking about modding my old Epi Les Paul. I just have one question. What pickup is in your neck position? The 490R is in the bridge. That's what i got from this thread (or i'm just blind -.-) and something about a BB #2 in the neck position. But then i have to change it from 2 to 4 wire, am i right?
Me and my G0 with the 490R and alnico 5. Yes, I know, I won't get a JP tone without a Plexi, but I think it sounds good

Cool. Whats the measurement on your t top?
Andrew, whats the mod on your jcm 600?
It's a 7.7k 490R.
Cool guitar and very good skills
You can leave your BB#2 with his original wire. Page did not have any mods (by push pulls) in the 70's
if you like the idea of having out of phase tones or splitting coils, you have to mod the burstbucker by changin the lead wire. Usually, new-stock 490R are sold with 4 cond wire, so I hope you already have one in the bridge.
Don't forget the short alnico 5 in the 490
Edit: Found this short alnico v magnet on ebay since the e-mail on RockMonkey seems broken. Will it work? It's longer and a bit thinner. It's 2.29'' x 0.50'' x 0.118''. Does this make any big difference? And do they have to be magnetized or un-oriented or something like this?
I did it to my Epi Trad Pro too, sounds awesome!
I've bought mine from Addiction-fx on Ebay. It's a A5 charged 2.36" and sounds good to me. I've never seen a so short bar like that 2.29". I think it should be fine.
The one andrew got in his 490r is even shorter, it's 2.25" x .5" x 0.125". So i think, mine should be fine, too.
Yes, you are right. Damn it I've got to find a 2.25"
I hope I have the power to resurrect the thread.
I'm a little late to the party I know but I too am a Jimmy Page 70's live sound lover. I read through the entire thread and was seriously impressed with the tone Andrewflour achieved and it was great seeing him all grown up at the end there with his lovely new PAF. So I need a little recap here and some help. Ive got a pair of buckers coming a 490r and a 498t they both have the 4-wire cables i believe.
So, i will of course be shoving the Alnico V in the 490r and dropping it in the neck. Will the 498t be good in the bridge position for that JP quack. It has an Alnico V in there, will that make it a little too similar and lose the middle position quackiness? or will the different wiring etc. be different enough from the 490r. Do I have to stick a burstbucker 2 in the bridge for the quack?
Second question.. If I do a JP wiring mod with the push/pull pots etc. will this undo any of the tonal goodness or will it just give me extra options when the pots are in the pull positions?

hmm. the best results i got were by treating the modded 490R as a bridge pickup, and then using a PAF-range neck pickup, 7-8k.
Our own Page pickup expert James (ReWind pickups) would suggest something close.
if i were to do it again, i'd get his post-72 JPP set, but yeah - an 8k neck pickup of the PAF variety for accuracy is what's needed.
