Gibson Sg Melody Maker

    If the the solder joints aren't boogered with it can't be an early 60's..How could it have pots dated to 66.
    Looking at some catalog pages(I know they could be all over the place) and what the pics show and color options i'd think its a 69 with a little mix of different yr parts maybe.

    69 catalog,Walnut color,2 screw slide type selector switch(Like Yours),But witch hat knobs.

    66 Catalog, 2 colors offered (PB CR) "regular" looking/style 3 way switch and black reflector knobs. With narrow MM headstock.

    Mine had witch hats , black guard and toggle
    I may still have the guard,if I didn't sell it ...be awhile before Im home though
    I know for a fact , I made a new guard for that one when I p-90'd it

    I would think the years when that headstock shape and size was put on MMs would be the most convincing evidence as to year built. But as to parts, I have tried to buy then from Gibson for an older Gibson with zero success. "We don't sell parts" I was told.

    You're off on your years a little bit. '62-'64 were different to the '65 Melody Maker, which was the one Joanne Jett made famous. the '62-'64 had a shorter width and less pointed horns than the '65. You're right about them going to the SG shape in '66, though.
