My 98 Special SL is not chambered or weight relieved. It is slab bodied. Are all Specials and Juniors This way as well? If someone can PM me with the answer it would be nice.

I put a pair of Dr. Vintage pickups in my Lite and now it's the only guitar I play...unless I'm too far into the inebriation zone.

CHECKLIST TO LESSEN FORUM RANTS ABOUT GIBSON QC:

Buying a new Les Paul and getting the most of out of your $$$...
funny its a really beautiful instrument and yet lots of folks complain about poor QC all the time...

1.Try and inspect as many as possible...make internet purchase a last option.

2.Check out the usual QC problems like, finish orange peel, sloppy binding work especially at the neck, check for cuts, and obvious scrapes and file marks on nibs, tuners that are not aligned, nut and nut slots

    3. Tuning Stability, Bend and play the heck out of it and check for tuning stability

    4. Look at the back of the headstock check for crooked and not aligned tuners.

    5. Check for cracks on binding neck and body, or where two pcs of wood join together.

    6. Inspect finish for strange marks, fingerprints, dirt.

    7. Check the cavities for excessive wood shavings.

    8.

    9.

    10.

What else guys? feel free to add more to this checklist..

Is there any advantage to stringing my Paul over the top of the stop tail piece as apposed to through the tail piece? My current Paul is a 1960 Classic!

Just picked up an 2005 les paul standard ebony. Havent had a les paul for awhile but glad I am back in the game.. Very nice playing Les Paul. I made the switch from SG standard.. I thought that I would be blown away by the burstbuckers.. At least I think the 2005's came with Burstbuckers? But wondering how 57s would sound in it? I had 57s in my SG and loved the tone. The burstbuckers dont seem as hot at least to my ears and more trebly.

This is the best info i have found on Gibson LP. Is anyone well versed in the recent changes post-chambering? I have some specific questions that don't seem easily available:

When did gibson begin modern weight relief?
Did gibson switch over to MWR for customs as well as studios
Modern Weight Relief vs Chambered (weight, tone)

I didn't know a whole lot about LP's when I got mine a month ago. Well, I knew about gold tops from 73, when former band mates played them, that's when I fell in love with the Les Paul. But I was a drummer then! I knew there were varying priced models, and I knew how many coins were rattling around in my pocket, and it wasn't enough for my hobby at the time I thought to cough up for a traditional, or custom shop yada yada. Turns out, I probably spent that much on 5 guitars. Yes, 5 INCLUDING a Les Paul.

I chose a 2013 Les Paul Studio Gold, new off the shelf in wine red, gloss top, satin sides and back with gold trim. I think I did very well for what I paid. Now with 2015 price increases pending, I am pretty sure my LP will always be worth at least what I paid for it, if not more- That's a good guitar investment. :)

I am really growing to love it's rich toned appearance, and the black swirls in it's finish-

Sorry if this is the wrong place. I asked Gibson Customer Service for a picture of the routing of a Les Paul Axcess Standard.

What is the difference between the 2014 les paul studio and the les paul studio pro?
All I can see is the pickups, and one retails for £699 and the other £999, and if it is just the pickups and coil tapping, I don't see that as worth an extra £300.

So, as I was looking through here and at 2014 LP Trads, I realized the numbering didn't match any of the patterns here or on the link at the Les Paul site.

It seems that in 2014, Gibson again changed their serial number process and no longer embed production date (julian) into the number. It is just a straight

YYxxxxxxx - where x=sequential number of guitar produced.

Here's the link with the explanation: New Serial Numbering: We
