Yeah, had a tour there in 2015. That place is big, a lot of unused space in like the lobby. The factory itself wasn't that big.

I remember the nicest smelling j45 in the shop over there. It had n adirondack top. Maybe that's why it smelled so nice.

selling buildings and renting back never was a wise decision ( IMO of course )
can't remeber any company that survived such actions

After all, it is the hollowbody factory, which I highly doubt sell in the numbers of the solid body guitars.

Fer Pete's sake, they aren't shutting down the Nashville operation, they're just moving it to a more appropriate facility. Gibson is cashing out a large, half-empty piece of valuable Beale Street real estate; an eminently sensible move for any company healthy or not. The foolish move was buying there and opening an entertainment venue in the first place, although I reckon Gibson will still realize a tidy profit on the flip.

HJ did it for the Elgin IL strings plant. Built new in '96, had to sell and then lease property when he was trying to raise cash....building has been empty since '06

Sounds like they are moving to another site. Money issues are pretty well documented but I wonder if that is the main reason. I think the last number was $520 million of debt and they are selling this facility for $17 million. Granted that is a lot but if they move somewhere else, I would only assume that the amount of money they would net off of the sale would be a bit less than $17 million which does very little for a $520 million debt.

Who knows really. I am just an arm chair economist that literally knows very little.

Maybe it is oversized for the amount of products they produce? I would love to tour the place before they move though.

The downsizing is now real, and verifiable. No wonder CS. closes and people let go.I hope he pulls it off.push come to shove, i'd rather Gibson Guitars is with us for a long time.

Is there any real reason why we need Gibson Nashville and Memphis? Can't the two be combined under one roof?

That sounds about right. Sell shit off to inflate the numbers in a financial or quarterly report, sell for a profit, let the next joker take the hit.
