I'm glad they are getting away from the corian nut.
I'm glad they are using the PLEK on the whole board.
I'm glad they are using one piece fingerboards.
In the above areas, maybe they are listening to complaints.

I find the prices to be lower than what I would expect typical MSRP to be.
The Signature and Classic are 3 knobbers.
The Signature seems to be more than just a T. Maybe that's an upgrade from T complaints.
Not sure what an M is. Minimal? The SG gets one also.
The Peace is priced between a Trad and Standard. The SG does NOT get a Peace.
I notice the blowout prices for the Supreme were deeply discounted. And there isn't a Supreme on this listing. I wonder if the Supreme is history...ie collectable.

I'm not quite yawning, but not really excited about anything just yet.

I personally prefer the nibs. Hopefully they just made them slightly shorter and didn't get rid of them completely.

Not a big fan of those grip knob looks.

Gotta give them credit for trying. Over the past decade, they have certainly had their hits and misses. Only time will tell which of these 2014 offerings will be which.

If they got rid of nibs across the whole product line I am pretty happy I got a 2013 Trad for a blowout. Solid body, nibs, and no ugly 12th fret.

And here I thought they were trying to improve from year to year.

The only way to make the nibs shorter is to use thinner binding, like on the vintage guitars.

Basically you either have nibs (of the width of the binding) or you don't.

It's a major change in the building order, to have the nibs you have to fret the board off the guitar, trim the sides flat and apply the binding BEFORE gluing the board to the neck.

With fret-over-binding you can actually fret the board when the neck is pretty much finished.

I can see this change driving the Gibson purists crazy, but frankly, I see no *Functional* advantage whatsoever in having nibs (sometimes even the opposite).

I would think that the nibs will be on the traditional still but not the classic and sig models with coil tapping and quite a low price really

edit: well maybe anyway overall though they look pretty good so eh

I agree, but there isn't much *functional* advantage to anything Gibson makes.

Which other guitar brands use nibs anyway? Just wondering.

Anyway, im still waiting for the full specs of each model to have a clear opinion. I'm liking the models between the Studio and the Standard though.

"New model year serial numbering system"

Not another system? or just a new year on the old one?

Those non-clip knobs look interesting for volume work while retaining looks!

I believe now the year will be in the first 2 digits instead of first and fifth, something like that.

"New model year serial numbering system enhances collect ability"

So it was the serial numbering system…. That's what they've been doing wrong these past years….

    Hellyeah xkcd is awesome.

Also the Les Paul X, just like the second and third Matrix movies, never actually happened. True story.
