Discussion in 'Other Single-Cuts' started by sumitagarwal, Jun 30, 2015.

Is this a solid top or veneer?

  2. Well aren't you optimistic. That's a veneer.

I would say veneer unless proven by good cavity shots.

EDIT: Looks like an HS(Heritage Sunburst?) finish to me.

I had some trouble with the 59RI but the others were fine. Nothing a touch of glue didn't fix.

That's one handy chart to have!

I tried to isolate the pickup cavity shot and it really probably would be good enough to go by if it weren't small and compressed so horribly. Its got what looks like veneer around the rim, although I can't tell if that's the actual wood or the crappy jpg compression:

The more I eyeball this one the more I feel it just might be too plain of a top to be considered a "flame" top for an LPS-59R. Anyone think we might be looking at an LPS-57C instead?

    That's an interesting angle. :hmm:

Could be a 57C with a light flame :dunno:

Never seen a subtly flamed OBG LPS-57C but I've seen some subtly flamed OBG LPS-59R's. Was the 57C available in Honeyburst color?

No they didn't have a honey burst. LD is probably the closest.

Here's another that looks like a close sibling and is stated to be a 59R. Color is stated to be Lemon Drop: Japan Vintage Guitars - Orville by Gibson 59R LD

EDIT: Additional thought here... I'm thinking the Jauce listing is probably a very subtle flame on a 59R instead of a slight flame on a 57C because *no pickguard holes*! Which, unfortunately, probably also means a veneer. Seems a shame to add a veneer for such a weak flame, right?

reissues are not necessarily guitars with solid flame top
90 percent of guitars on the market are reissues with a laminated top flame

the thickness of veneer maple is 0.6 mm so you will not see it on the cut
    when you remove the pickup
Even if you see 2 equal parts of the maple, this does not mean that you have a top of a solid wavy maple
The top of the solid corrugated maple has a tilt of fibers in one direction and on the right and on the left side
because cutting a book is when one part is turned over
You need to understand this and think with your head and do not think out what is not in this reality
I hope my Google translator translated into English
