I have a Phaez Power Train that is supposed to be based off the Friedman Pink Taco circuit. Sadly, it doesn't get that modern sound on it's own. I have to use an Overdrive to get the sound I'm after. I use a Fulltone OCD that gets it into the hard rock/metal territory. I went to Sweetwater HQ today to demo the Friedman BE-OD. I tried it with a Blackstar Artist 30 (blackstar's take on a low gain 6L6). With that amp, it sounded great. Heavy but defined. No flub. Was satisfied enough to buy it. Took it home to try with the Phaez. Was not a good match. Push the pedals gain too much past 8 o'clock and it just flubs out. Also hiss and noise was more than usual. I also tried it with my Hughes and Kettner, just lacked punch and depth. It might work okay with a Fender style amps, but didn't work for my application . I will be returning it tomorrow.
