After the first two bodies I tweaked the jig so that the donut had a bit more slope and it was easier to slip into place. It was then not a problem to do myself.

I would like to say a GIANT THANK YOU for all the time and effort you have put into this thread/build- ESPECIALLY taking the time to do videos.

For me( and I'm sure others) seeing an operation in a video is a much better teaching tool than photos alone. I also know how much time it takes to film, edit, upload and all that. I certainly appreciate all your efforts.

I eagerly await your updates to this thread, but I also understand you have your own biz to run.

    Hats off to Freddy!

Thanks for doing these videos and sharing them. Really get a kick out of you building these guitars with your father assisting you. The teamwork of doing the binding route was great. Hats off to you Freddy!

If you ever go to the Philly show and can talk your dad into accompanying you, I think there are several of us who would love to sit and enjoy an "adult beverage" while we listened to him tell stories.

    Freddy G,
Thanks for yet again another great video! I am, however, a little confused about the geometry of how that "donut's" contact with the body actually works. My mind's eye simply can't visualize what's actually going on there. :hmm: :dunno: I do understand what you are using it to correct/allow for, but I just can't quite get how it does so. (now, where's that head scratch emoji?) Fantastic work, either way!
    Thanks Again,
    Gene

It's just a tiny base for the router. The donut only contacts about 1/4" of the surface of the guitar. Because of that small dimension the arch top doesn't influence the depth of cut.
Normally a router base needs to be large enough to keep it perpendicular and stable to the surface you're routing, but because of the fact that this jig stabilizes the geometry of the router (it can only go straight up or down, and remains square to the work-piece) then that allows for the small base...the "donut"

I made myself one of these binding router jigs earlier this year. Super simple and like Freddy i used a 1/4" piece of plexiglass for the bottom for good viability. I did buy the stew mac binding router bit set, personally think thats worth the coin. Dojt be like me thou, i stupidly drilled the input jack before i router the channel and the had to grain match a circular patch when the bit went in the hole.

Wish the videos weren't so far apart (and, yes, I know this stuff takes time).

    Great work, Freddy!

Will you be making vids of the finishing process as well? (I hope!)

    Thanks guys!

Yes, absolutely vids of the finishing. I'll probably stick a quick teaser vid up soon of the pore filler colour after I hit it with clear lacquer. I'm very jazzed about that! Probably two more vids left...the finishing process and then the final assembly and set-up.

I won't be bummed when it's all over! :fingersx:
