why in the world would you own a 100watt tube amp unless your an areana musician. you will never be able to crank it enough to get a good tube sound. 100 watts is such a waste of money and stacks are heavy. just becuase somone like slash or angus has a stack doesn't mean you need the same thing. i know for a fact that you can get the same tones from most tube combo's or lower wattage heads. id say even 50 watts is a little much for most of us in the real world who dont play arena shows. if you really want a good sound you need something you can crank past 5 or so where most tube amps sweet spot is. it would be like me owning a ferrari or lamborghini here in hawaii. there is no possible place to open it up in 6th gear. it will never be used for what it was designed for and in the end you wasted your money. moral of the story is, kids get a good tube combo with a lower wattage. 30-50

Good luck trying to talk sense like that!:laugh2: We have been preaching this on here every day. What is funny, most of those recordings that are responsible for all of the great tones everyone wants, were recorded with lower watt amps...such as J. Page

My 30 watt tube amp is loud enough. I never even run it at halfway in the house...

Whew !.... I just escaped your shitstorm...my Electra Dyne is only 90 watts :D

I love the bottom end balls on a high wattage amp...no substitute IMO.
Ya gotta have the environment to get the speakers working too.
Doesn't mean it has to be dimed though.
That's the moral of my story.

-I don't care what other people do. They need to do whatever floats their boat.

-100 watts is not really functionally louder than 50 watts, or even 30 watts. The db difference is miniscule. Not to mention the fact that 100 watts on some amps can sound like 30 watts on another. The power output does not have to translate into specific volume. Someone else mentioned headroom too.

-There can be more low end thump with higher wattage amps. That's important to some people.

-I've got a 65 watt amp that I can turn down to 18 watts and the settings are more for tone than volume.

I have a good sized amp. 250 Watts, or so they say.

It was cheaper to buy than any of the "sensible" amps were. A lot cheaper. Go figure.

There is your answer. But I do agree with argument that 100 watts is over kill for indoor small clubs.

That's why the PA System was invented so you didn't need a 100 watts.

I've seen several ads for guitarists on CL that demand anyone who applies must have at least a 100w amp. :laugh2:

Im a kid, and yes i wanted to be like Angus Young and Jimmy Page and have my big ass Marshall Tube Head. So i bought a DSL-100... Now a year later. It is way too loud for my bedroom and even too loud for the small gigs i do with my band. Now i am in the process of selling it to buy an Orange Rocker 30. The 30 watt tube head is more than enough. I wish a thread like this would have been made a year ago!!!:laugh2: It doesnt matter, I would have bought the 100 watt head anyways. I guess my ears got some sense knocked into them after my damn Marshall was done with them. :thumb:

I commend you on your honesty!!:applause: I was just about to say, I would love to hear someone say they had made this mistake. I am not young anymore, but did the same thing when I was younger. Just part of the learning process.:thumb:

100w and less are for girly men. I run a 300w 6550 power section. THAT'S headroom!

J/k. Whatever floats your boat, man.
