After years of lusting, scoffing at price tags, joking about owning one, and flipping more gear than anyone ever should, I finally decided it was time to pull the trigger on a reissue.
I've been browsing for a couple weeks and didn't see anything that really set me off in my price range for and R8 until this weekend.
Forum user Brian Seneca posted up his 2002 Bourbon Burst R8 and it immediately caught my eye, this was the one.
After a couple phone calls and text messages we struck a deal. Unfortunately, the guitar won't be getting to me until Thursday, but I am beyond excited to finally have my hands on one of these.
My only gripe is, these guitars have Burstbuckers stock, which are some of my least favorite Gibson pickups, so I'll have to work on getting something else in there. But I'm sure they'll do for now.

    Here are the pictures:

I can't wait to get it into my hands. I've never spent more than 5 minutes with them. Unfortunately, not a lot of collectors or players left in my area

Thank you all. It won't be in my hands until Thursday, but I actually have a Friedman JJ100 coming in tomorrow, so it's going to be a fun filled week of new gear!

    Holy smokes. Nice guitar. Congrats!

I remember when I got my first historic, coincidentally an R8 as well. I was blown away by how well it played, there is nothing that compares to the feel of a Gibson historic. I now own two R8s and a R6 Goldtop (and I'm currently saving for a R4/CR4 ...and then maybe a R7?).

Man, I'm totally psyched for you, I can't wait to here about your first week playin' that fine instrument. Be sure to post some pics as well.

Thanks man. About a week ago, I got a full setup, fret leveling, new nut, the works done to my 2013 Creamtone'd LP Traditional, these were the models that were extremely similar to an R8, '58 profile neck, no weight relief, etc... and it is now my best playing and feeling guitar. Kind of what pushed me towards getting a real deal historic.

I am very excited, and hope it doesn't disappoint. My only issue is, I don't care for Burstbuckers, but spending that much on a guitar, I'm reluctant to shell out for pickups right away. Ha!

Fantastic! Traditionals are great guitars too.

Give the Burstbuckers a few months and then see how you feel. I have Custombuckers in my 2013 R8 which sound superb. I also can highly recommend Tyson Tone pick-ups, I recently put the Precious & Grace set in my ES Les Paul which were a perfect fit. This fall, when I'll have a little more financial freedom, I plan on getting another pair for my 1998 R8, the stock '57 classics are a little too bright for my taste (which is odd as they're perfect in my '95 335).

    Good luck and have fun!
