Hey guys, my Nighthawk won't be in until May 6th so I ordered this version of the Epiphone SG to keep me busy for the month of April. I was curious if anyone else owns this. I love the style and it was cheap. I plan on doing a full overhaul mod on this like every other Epiphone.

What I really want to know is why this version is cheaper than the regular G-400? This one looks way better in my opinion.

    Finish isn't as labor-intensive.

This is funny, someone pointed out the binding to me as well on a different board. The picture I posted was just an example. I didn't realize the differences. Looks like I will be recieving this one instead:

Not as nice, but still love the SG shape and cant wait to tear the electronics out and give it a makeover.

Several guys over on the Epi forum have those and love em'. I've always liked the looks of the Epi better than Gibsons Faded line.

i have an 04 with the neck binding i did some electronics mods to the pots and caps and wiring and i love it. i compared it to gibsons 2000 dollar 61 reissiue and they were spot on even where the neck meets the body. the one peice neck is a little diffrent than what epiphone makes now but no biggie. i think you cant get a better guitar for the money. i played mine out last week and people were talking about how great the guitar sounded.

some people complain about it being neck heavy but this is due to where the strap button is because of where the neck meets the body. gibson changed how the neck meets the body a few years after they made the sg not sure if this is why but i prefer the original way because the upper fretts are not hindered in any way.

It's a crime what they did. This is one pristine looking guitar. Cost prohibitive? or a threat to the homeland?

    I owned a cherry red 2009 G-400 faded
it was a real sweet guitar
that recently got traded to help fund my GAS craving.

Not that exact one sorry. I meant that "style" without the binding and the inlays dont appear to be as "faded". Theres a few other minor details too like the headstock being a flat finish also.

Im curious of the owners of this guitar here. Did you get chrome or Nickel hardware on yours?

That Vintage looks really nice. The first thing I noticed about it was the nice natural-looking grain pattern. The regular G-400's have the "zebra stripe" thing going on.

I'm guessing it's because of the veneer that's hiding the multiple piece body

Now that Ive noticed the differences, I think Im going to play this when it comes in but keep my eye out for a vintage for sale somewhere. That binding and woodgrain makes such a huge difference. Those more "yellowed" inlays really add something as well.

I had one and I foolishly sold it recently. Great playing guitar with nice low action, and as everyone knows unlimited fret access. I always liked the SGs with the smaller pickguard instead of the larger.

Here's a couple of pics of my 2002 MIK Vintage G-400 (Faded or Worn?) Cherry. Got it used last year on the fleabay. Guitar & case were immaculate, no dents scratches, or wear. Got a good deal on it too.

How much do the Vintages weigh? My regular G-400 runs about 8.75 lbs.

Mine weighs in the 6-7 lbs range. I have never weighed it, but I am pretty good at guessing weight.

Hell, I might as well go ahead and show mine off. Lots of mods.
