    Not nitro for sure, but probably a good hard urethane or polyurethane. I have an amber plus top and the finish is beautiful and hard.

    I don't think many, if any, Epiphones have nitro finishes stock.

    I like my plus top a lot. I put covered Seymour Duncan pickups in it: JB bridge and 59 neck. It sounds beautiful and plays really well. I'm not sure yet how it compares to my Gibson studio maple top faded, but it is no slouch.

    Hi folks,
    An Epi Les Paul has been given to me from an old friend. Now, i can remember him buying it new in 1989-1991....& as a 13-14 yr old i loved it. He bought it from a good guitar retailer.
    There isnt an embossed serial on it but theres a sticker reading 9030077. So i was assuming that it was 1990, March, model number. I think i can remember reading that there was a factory that didnt have a factory code.

    Is this right?

    It has an open book headstock & plastic Kluson style tuning.
    Will post some photos tomorrow
    Many Thanks
    Dano

    I think the serial reads like....

    9 = '89
    03= March
    0077=production#

    should be made by Samick, 'cause this was the only Epi - OEM manufacturer at that time in Korea

    Thanks alot,

    So im looking at the 77th Lp to come out of Samick!! Nice.

    Today i will be testing the pots, wiring & tone. I will keep a photographic record as i do it up. I think Slash Pro Alnico's are a must.

    Thanks again.

    Hi again,
    Heres the photos of my '89 Epi Les Paul Standard. Sorted the wiring & it sounds great & the neck is a dream....very slim!
    It needs a damn good clean, strings etc so i can play until i spend the bucks on new hardware....maybe even a paintjob coz the top isnt all that.[IMG]

    Folks,
    I saw this in a local website selling LP's. The serial number begins with '10'. Are these legitimate? Thanks.

    edit :

    additional question : does the gotoh stoptail and bridge makes huge difference compared to the Epi's stock?

    Anyone know what the stock strings that come with a custom are? I need to change the strings but really quite like the ones that came with my custom. If not any suggestions for a beginner who's been playing for just over 2 months?

    Are you thinking that those are the same stings from 2009?

    I contacted the seller on ebay to ask and yes they are the same strings that came with the guitar :shock:. He said he'd played it once and then never touched it again.

    Wow! :thumb:

    I have no idea what came stock. Have you taken it in for a set up? They could match them up at that time, I'll bet.
