Slight delay on pictures of mine. Took it in to get a full set up and fret leveling.

I found a new place(new to me) and the guy worked a miracle on my Epi Les Paul. If they can work the same magic on the Genesis, it's going to be one of my favorite guitars.

LOL! Often, the surface applied print on parts like this are hardened/finished in a last step, either heat baking or some types use high intensity UV light. Perhaps that last step was not completed for some reason, or a contaminate was on the surface prior to applying the print. There are various methods, but the type I listed above is fairly common. It is also possible, that to save money, they used a cold process ink/paint that does not use a specific final process to cure the printed results. But that generally results in far less durable finish properties.

Sounds about right with paint on the truss cover. There were other issues the Luther found with this guitar that I hope he can fix.

The bridge is not set correctly and the low strings may not be set with proper intonation.

There was a dent in one of the frets that will require some serious fret leveling.

He did get my Epi Les Paul playing better than any of my other guitars. Will have to wait and see. Otherwise I will have to return it...

Sounds like you have had a less than stellar experience.

I recently purchased an Epiphone Prophecy EX, and I had to deal with some issues resulting from poor quality control. But in the end, I was not comfortable with the situation. So it had to be returned.

I will still buy Epiphone guitars, as most are very good products, requiring usually just a proper set-up, and often, replacement of the pick ups.

It seems most of the best examples come from the exclusively Gibson owned Qingdao factory. I believe that Epiphone should retire from using 3rd party manufacturers. It is simply too difficult to ensure quality control in that situation. Heck, articles from Epiphone's head of foreign management even said as much, and this was the reason for the exclusively Gibson owned Qingdao factory. Guitars coming from DeaWon or Unsung(going by serial number ID codes): I have observed a very wide variation of quality with Epiphones having this factory code. My Prophecy came from this origin. But my SG also came from that code origin, and it has a very high quality, overall.

Just applied a waterslide transfer of the Gen. logo to the truss rod cover.
Covered in several coats of clear for protection.Probably more secure now than the screen printed logo that came off easily with a mild cutting paste.
Also fitted a bone nut to replace the plastic one.
I have a spare Gen.logo if you would like it St.nautilus - pm me if you want it.

With thanks to Brians evil twin for the scan of the Genesis logo.

    Hey Fab !
I now have two Gens. The new pro and now an old Deluxe. Brian is to blame for my new found fetish - one day i might find one of those elusive customs to sate my hunger for more.
    Question : - are two Genesis's known collectively as 'Geni'i ?
and does that make me a Genius ? !:D

i really like the Custom 79 (the Blue) the neck are fantastic, like baseball bate!, 58/59 profile.
    http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/epiphone-les-pauls/244823-1979-epiphone-genesis-custom.html

the burst ( the 1980) are thinner but the neck are "chunky" compared with the 60s slim profiles
    http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/epiphone-les-pauls/204076-1980-epiphone-genesis-custom.html

on both guitars the finish are really great,.
but again, the blue are better, in the Genesis Meet
    http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/other-epiphones/249336-epiphone-genesis-meet.html

all the folks notice the same thing,
the blue Custom "the jewel" are very different to the others Customs
the finish are better, the nibs, the rosewood are darker, the inlays are golden abalone,
the fat neck are very comfortable,
the body have 2 or 3 mm plus more than the 80s burst custom
the main difference is the tone delivered.
the blue is more rounded tone, much more "low end" but with vintage taste,
very nice warm tone, deep, ideal for dark songs,
for use and abuse the "e" tonality etc and for "drop D" was a fuking beast.
like big hammer on your head!
nice warms and sweets cleans and dirts.
for play obscures & dirty RnR was great!

The burst is more thinner tone more "modern" maybe, like an standard gibson, more slashy tones, compresed, and more brigthness, more "razor" sound.
for more faster songs i thing works really good!
i like both, i think the blue one is other thing, but both guitars are great,
the finish quality, the materials, with only see the guitar closer you know...this guitars are full of quality,
very much more expensives guitars comes with sintetics inlays...

on the geni meet we have an a studio gib and symply not comparation,
the genesis is not afraid of nobody
in other meet with some musician friends maybe 1 or 2 years ago, we put the blue genesis side by side with a beautiful Prs C24 20th Aniv. the geni was the star of the nigth, everyone wanted to listen and see if it "pass the test", plug to a 1969 Fender Bassman both guitars sound great, we play the same songs at first with the Prs and later with the Genesis using several efects, and both intruments deliver a great tone.
my friend (prs owner) sais this guitar have "something". he has had many Gibson, Prs etc , amazing and very expensives guitars but he really like the genesis sound and feel.
he knows and have much more experience than me, i respect your opinion.
the customs genesis are full of old school.

Fabi, i know what you mean about the old ones. The Deluxe i have is a great axe. Thick neck and comfortably heavy and those old p'ups are pretty amazing. The new pro is good, but it aint got the soul or mojo of the deluxe.
I missed the ebay listing for the custom and it sold low - maybe not as good as i thought. I will keep looking for one, we dont seem to get them here in the UK. Even the new ones are advertised by a couple of stores here, but when you enquire, they aint got stock and dont know when/if the Gens will turn up.:hmm:

I have no idea of where it was made, what's marked in the link is what's in the auction. It seems to have a stamped serial number for whatever that's worth. I also noticed that it has 4 control knobs where the original ones I've seen have 3.

I think whoever bids on it may have a good chance of winning it. He spelled 'Genesis' wrong so it might not show up in a search for one which could limit the competition. :D

Fabi, i have the possibility of an Epi' explorer or a 7 string LP coming up.
If i dont get one of those, there might be a scuffle ! I'll blame Brian for any fallout !:laugh2::naughty:
