In 2012 I bought a Sheraton 50th anniversary that just came out that year, amazing guitar, especially for the price.

I didn't have much opportunity to play this guitar these years, but yesterday I retook from the vault, it needed a fresh set of strings and I took the opportunity to check the PUs, that became interesting as I new the guitar has Gibson minibuckers, but I didn't expect to see the engraved paten number:

Does anybody know if Gibson still makes them with the patent number? I thought they came with the PAF sticker only.

Yes I think in the late 70s they engraved the patent number, let me rephrase the question:

Are the current production ones made with the sticker or with the engraved patent number? My understanding is that the new production ones have the sticker...if not it would mean these PUs are NOS from the late 70s/early 80s...that would be strange.

They made 1962 of the Anniversary Sheratons. Do you really think they had nearly 2,000 sets of 40 y/o mini-humbuckers just sitting in boxes?

I'd doubt they'd have NOS pickups sitting around for 32 yrs(80's>2012)

Pretty sure my long lost '71 Deluxe had patent decals...not patent applied for.

I love the sounds from the mini's in my 50th anniversary sheraton, they can handle just about anything matched with the right amp.
