the Gibson Les Paul Studio I’m getting had EMG HZ pickups, they’re still passive but does anyone know if these are a good fit?

The HZ pickups aren’t even worth the trouble honestly

Words on the Internet mean nothing.

Since it comes with the pickups.... play it a while. Let us know what you think.

I have a guitar with EMG active pickups and I love them, if they sound anything like EMGs active pickups then I’ll like them

They really don't. They're just generic, crappy passive pickups sold with the "EMG" name only because it allows them to sell them for more. Usually found in low budget "metuuuuuuuuulz" guitars. But yeah, these are just words on the internet. The only opinion that matters to you is yours. MAybe you'll love them. If not, it's easy to replace them, and you can sell them to some poor sucker if you can live with yourself after that.

Be 100% sure this is the Les Paul you want. I know you really want it, but saving up a bit more might be a better idea sometimes!

I know you're young (I'm not much older than you) and know how painful it is to really want a GIBSON LES PAUL. But seriously, think about it for a few days before you pull the trigger.

No, passive EMGs are not "like" active EMGs. Passive EMGs are way down on the list of what most LP players consider for their guitars. I'm sure they are decent, but they sure wouldn't be my pick. But done is done -- hope you like them.

If they are HZ4 or HZ4A they aren't too bad. I like the HZ2 that comes in the Alexi Laiho Signature too. Kinda weak without the boost though.

The real EMG tone is in the active pickups though. 81/85, 81/60 or the Het Set are great for Metal.
