I'm learning Pink Floyd's "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and the Youtube video has this marked as E7-, but I can't find that anywhere. What chord is that?

    Code:
    x--------------------
    ----------8----------
    ----------9----------
    ----------8----------
    ----------7----------
    x--------------------
Edited 12/13 to show CORRECT chord. I had it as x-7-8-9-7-x.

What's the band doing under that chord? You're looking at E, Bb, E, and F#. There's no third in it, so you can't say even major or minor unless the bass or keys are picking up that flavor.

It implies to me E9b5, but without a particular spot being known, it's hard to say.

At 4:40 he's playing a simple Eb barre chord, A-shaped, at the sixth fret. It isn't what you have in your OP.

    I'll go with E9b5, then.

The correct chord is Edim7, which (in that position) would be x-7-8-6-8-x.
He's just playing the dim triad, x-7-8-9-8 (your 7-8-9-7 was a typo ;)), which works OK, but why not play the full correct chord?

It's a classic jazz sequence, btw: Eb > Edim7 > Bb/F > D7/F# > Gm (check the bass line). Except Floyd insert a Dm between the Bb and D7 to harmonise the F-D-F melody.

I used to be in a band that gigged this tune. Jon is right - Edim7 is the correct chord. It's what is on the album (IIRC) and it was what was in the official album music book that I owned at the time.

    :)

From memory I'm going with D7/F# - typo?

YES, you are right. I did mess that chord up. It is as you have it. I'll see if I can change it.

What he tabbed was an E diminished chord
