I really adore Dry Z 's. I put them on my LS80 and for me it's a marvelous LP. In my opinion it's very close to the real thing... that's it....

a magnet swap in some screamin 82s is like chalk & cheese if yer handy with a screwdriver that certainly makes them go from 'oh **** thats horrid' to something more sonically pleasing but i dont have these Z's to compare

    Not alnico 5 for sure...

But, even if they were made of mud... the sound would be wonderful anyway...

Not per se. Dry Zs have either alnico 2 or 3. They sound far from thin.

What I mean, is that Scremins82 had a thin character already, Alnicos 3 didn't change that much, I doubt Alnico 2 will bring that magic Dry sound to the table. With this experiment, I'm sure there are more important differences between Scremins and Drys than just magnet. Of course, I have not tried all Dry PUs, nor all Scremins with many different magnets.

I should try many Alnicos anyway, it will surely help to figure magnet role on PUs tone, experiments that I have never done before.
