Down Brownie™, a faithful recreation of the revered Brown Deluxe 6G3 from Cutthroat Audio. Not a kit, and not your father's 6G3, as the saying goes (well, sort of).

This old-school build "mini-Marshall" has a British and Brown channel, Mercury Magnetics iron, Weber Alnico 12A125-S, Rich II Mod PPIMV, push/pull pot for channel "jumpering" and bright cap "lift", switchable tube/ss rectifier, switchable 6G3/5E3/JTM45 negative feedback, 4/8/16 ohm selectors and adjustable bias trim pot.

A full and complete description of the Down Brownie™ is here. $1995 + shipping, fully equipped.

    Here are some pics:

Here are some short Les Paul clips on the bridge pickup. All recorded dry. Signal chain = R9 + Royal Wulff 12' lo-cap cable + Down Brownie. Volume/Tone and Rectifier setting are in the filenames. British channel first, Brown channel next, and then British/Brown channels jumpered:

Just a comment Ron W , that is artistry. The lead dress and work on that amp is faultless.

Thanks to everybody who's commented or got in touch. Received (3) deposits this week (!) for the January, February and March slots. As a result, I've decided to add an additional February and March slot. Shoot me a PM or call me at the shop if you'd like to discuss placing one on hold.

Anybody heading to NAMM next week?

I currently have a slot available for mid-to-late March delivery. Also now offering an optional custom wound PT from Mercury based on an early Brown Deluxe PT with extra iron that gives the amp a bit more clean headroom at vintage voltages.

Cool amp. It would be nice to hear exact same riffs at same settings with the different feedback settings.
I think I preferred the tube rectified best out of those clips but who knows.
Would be cool to hear the PPIMV set at lower levels. I haven't tried enough amps to know what is volume control method is ideal (attenuation, power scaling, PPIMV). It seems that there are some heated discussions about which method is best.

The new DB spring colors are in!

Seriously, here's a really cool DB that just shipped recently. It's done in the later blonde color scheme that was used before the transition to the blackface amps. Rough blonde tolex, wheat grille, ivory knobs, brown rubber "dog bone" handle and bottom metal corners. Leo never made a Blonde Deluxe, but it he had, it might have looked like this one...

This customer opted to upgrade this DB with a Celestion Alnico Cream. A beautiful sounding speaker right out of the box!

Here it is with the tweed style oxblood w/gold stripe grille cloth:

After running a 6-8 week backlog since January, I'm finally caught up! A sincere thanks to all of the DB owners who have kept me hopping for the last few months.

I have one Down Brownie that can deliver the week of 8/28/17. Two different cabs to choose from. PM me for details.

After that, I'm taking some time off and expect to be back to a 4-6 week wait...

I recently had the pleasure of meeting up with Keith Nelson at his SoCal studio for the delivery of his Down Brownie. What I thought was going to be a brief visit turned into an extended hang where we visited about life, music and of course gear. Keith has some awesome chops, and is a real gentleman and all round cool dude. Thanks, Keith!
