My elbow is starting to hurt when I grip and I'm not really sure why.
It seems to be similar to tennis elbow. I practice/play about 1-2 hours a day.
I keep in shape with regular workouts (pushups-situps, etc, no weights).
The only think I can think of that I do repeatedly is play guitar. But it's not my wrist it's my elbow, wierd?
Is anyone else going through this?

Could be a number of things. Get it checked out and if it hurts too bad stop playing and give it a chance to heal.

I've had RSI (tennis elbow) numerous times... it's a regular occurence for me since i play drums aswell as guitar. It could be a simple case of this. Remember though, just because your wrist isn't hurting doesn't mean it's not contributing to the problem... ie... rapid/repetitive movements of your wrist can actually affect your elbow.

Hold your arm out in front of you with your palm facing up, make a loose fist, and move your hand up and down vertically, only using your wrist, whilst at the same time, put your other hand round your elbow... you'll feel your tendins/muscles move.

Your elbow doesn't have to be moving in order to be straining it ;) Perhaps a change in technique/posture is in order? Or even an elastic bandage to support your elbow until the symptoms ease off.

Could be due to your playing posture. Are you using a different guitar lately? I find LPs and SGs require a higher playing position to Strat shaped guitars.

I play an acoustic and electric about equal time each. Although I might play the acoustic alittle more cause it's readiy accessible. I play my acoustic sitting down and my electric standing up.(mostly)

It never hurts when I'm playing, but some mornings it aches.

I figure years of thrash riffs and shredding probably gave me some kind of tennis elbow. I put a heating brace on for about a half hour and it's fine.

Personally I think my muscles just stiffen and cramp while I'm sleeping.

look up lateral and medial epicondylitis. Any repetitive motion can cause it. It can be treated. Exercises and stretches are part of the treatment, they will prevent recurrence.

Drop yer guitar strap about 2-4 inches and you'll be fine.
    Worked for me.

stop doing push ups. you want to stay in shape, get into biking and or swimming and do isometric (flexing) exercises. theyre easy on your joints.

Describe the pain....is it a burning, a feeling like you hit your funny bone, sharp stabbing, fire running down the inside of your arm. Hand or fingers going to sleep or getting tingley....anything in your shoulder.

All will help in finding out what it is.

Get it checked out. Although my back kills me after half an hour of playing (even when sitting down), it's normally what makes me put the guitar back in the case for another hour before playing again.
