Does this happen often?

    Well, that's why the guitars are priced as they are. The build standard is very high -- todays Epis are constructed far better than most vintage guitars -- but it is mass production, and the company is not going to be rejecting units for very small glitches. The good thing is, you get to decide if it bugs you or not. Were it mine, I wouldn't be concerned but at some point would clean it up myself. Not everyone can mess with finish successfully, however. Bottom line for me = too small to be concerned.

    OP you said the neck was great.
    To me that is the most important part

    They are all hand sanded I believe so the next one might have a neck you don't like as much
